For those of you that run them, this is a heckuva great deal! Speedway nodular 3rd member, Daytona pinion support, Richmond PowerTrax Pro limited slip. I did a 3.50 gear for the street. It came in a very nice case for $700 shipped through Ebay! I did use an Ebay coupon but you should be able...

    Converter Question

Probably +500 on the stall. But that is a guess of course. Like others said, call the people you bought it from.

    At what HP/Tq?

Yes! I broke a rearend in my other car and sent the driveshaft throw floor tunnel. It broke everything all the way to the converter! LOL.

    At what HP/Tq?

A couple hundred passes at 3050lbs with an 8 3/4 no brace, Richmond gears and Strange axles. 10.90s rearend was still perfect when I sold the car. That being said.... I run a Dana now. I would rather over-build the drivetrain and NEVER have to think about it again.

At what point to go Dana 60 ??????

Dana 60 here. Traded an A-body 8 3/4 straight across for it. Free upgrade for me!

Does torque convertor selection effect the onset/prevention of detonation?

P.S. Your photo does not represent a piston damaged by detonation, but rather a lean condition that burned a hole in it. Detonation beats up the piston tops, crushes the top ring lands, peppers the sparkplugs, and beats the rod bearings out.

Does torque convertor selection effect the onset/prevention of detonation?

Yes! This is one of my tricks to running high boost on the street. Get the piston speed up before you increase cylinder pressure and there is much less time for detonation to occur. Cam timing events and ignition curve are also critical to making this work although if you are above 3500 stall...

    Torque converter stall

Call FTI in Deland, FL. They are up the road from me. I had a custom billet 4200 9 inch convertor made by them. It is very tight at part throttle and feels like a 2500 until I romp it, then hold on! Best $1100 I ever spent. Remember, ALL of your power passes through the converter. This makes it...

    Cruisin with low gears ?

I ran 4.56 with 295/50/15 tires and a 4-speed. 3500 rpm at 60. Perfect! People used to pull alongside me and tell me to shift. LOL.

Ok to run loose converter on the street?

I ran an 8" JW 4000 stall converter behind a 440. Loose as a goose. I also run a 9.5" FTI 4200 stall behind a small block and it is tight at part throttle. MUCH better on the street. Go 9.5 and spend the $$$. Mine was a tick over $1000.
