So I worked on the teen again, I guess a little at a time and thanks to president's day, I got a free day to work on this. Everything is a slow process and that's OK. I'm still dealing with some scratches in cylinder number 4 and I have this weird spot in cylinder number that I can feel...

I have no idea what all that means, the only thing I can think is you were drunk posting. It's OK, you are in a safe zone here.

Thanks for all the input. What a way to spend a Friday night. This is all very time consuming. I have only done 3 cylinders. It's a long process but so worth it. I declined a girls night out to work on this engine because come summer I want to put the Mercedes away and drive this dart...

They can be seen but not felt. If I close my eyes and run my nail over them, it's like they are not there. I'm assuming this engine was neglected and run low. The story is it was a low miles car this came from, the old people took care of it and then when it was old in 2009, it was given...

So after doing some honing, I noticed some vertical scratches. Are those going to be a problem ?

ok, got it straight based on 3.910 who would have thought a few thousandths of an inch could cost a few hundred dollars LOL

Part Duex tomorrow I was measuring just under the ridge on the worst cylinder. now this changes things because at 3.906 it was way out spec but in light of 3.910 ....this changes things a lot.

the snap gauge and micrometer showed 3.9113 ...but the bore gauge showed, 3.906 + .006 = 3.912 just shy of 3.912

Then I need to finish measuring it and forget the machine shop and put it together. I am looking for a commuter engine that will never see the race track. Valiant Propellant to go work, grocery shopping and back.

  13. Princess Valiant

That would certainly change things if it is 3.910

I only did a couple quick measurements and since it's so off, I'm just going to stop and not waste anymore time on this. Now to the machine shop

I thought this would be easier but .....I suppose no time like the present to dig into this thing deeper. I really don't remember how to use this and I should be mastering this. Now it's a great time to read the instructions. LoL

Shamefully, I have a bore gauge, used it once and forgot how to use it. I started honing this 318 to see how it would clean up or not. Came out of my 73 valiant. Low miles car that had the middle name sludge. This engine had so much sludge inside and out, that it was nuts. All the...

This is the area in the cylinder right below the ridge, where the finger nail caught Cylinder 7 and 8 have a ridge and yet 6 others not so much so it makes me wonder if an oil passage clogged and starved those 2 cylinders to having a ridge

    Altenator bracket

Does this seem right ? I always thought the bracket goes on the outside (yellow arrow) but the only this fits is to go behind the alternator tab. I don't have the non a/c pulleys yet to verify it's straight but it just hurt my brain because it seems wrong. It's a 75 engine about to be...

Police Pursuit Diplomat 360 turbo ???

Makes me regret i didn't buy one of those when I had a chance in 2008. 1500 bucks and the car was mint, but of course I thought that was too much money in those days because I was a broke and in college and I had just bought a 74 duster for 800. It was a police car but it was an unmarked...

    Re using cast iron rings?

Well, I'm over 10 and I believed a lot of what he said because they don't teach anything about older cars in auto school, it's all about the new stuff which is really different than the older stuff. I took his word for a lot of it because he was around when these old cars were newer and...

    Re using cast iron rings?

Ok, so the final decision is im going to pretend I never saw that video and go with my plan A. My plan A is to replace: rings, main bearings, rod bearings, cam bearings, timing chain, oil pump and gaskets. All of which i have on hand I know for a fact the engine is in spec in regard to taper...

    Re using cast iron rings?

Based on the replies, I'm going to share where I got this idea. I might have got the wrong impression or maybe that is what he meant. I was personally taught in auto school to replace rings, nobody never even suggested such a thing except this video. my engine hardly has any ridge and ran...

    Re using cast iron rings?

So I'm not going to mention which youtuber said it because I'm not throwing dirt at anyone but I recently watched a video and it was mentioned that you can more often than not, reuse your old cast iron rings. This actually makes sense in certain conditions like my 318 engine. It was...

    68 Barracuda 6cyl. vs. 318 K Frame Question

The timing, I just did this yesterday for another member. I did not mention the one year only 67 unit because I don't have one to compare. 68 - 72 and 73 -76 k frames
