1964 Valiant Single to Dual Master Swap Question

For manual brakes, the tapered rear piston "thimble" just needs to have a circular "recess" about half way down for the snip of neoprene slipped on the end of the pushrod to lock into. if it is a smooth taper with no circular recess then this MC will only work for power brakes. If the MC did...

    brake pads won't fit

rebuilt calipers are dirt cheap & reliable. You might go to your parts house & eyeball one of em & compare the piston recess depth to yours. If you do get new ones get ones for a 76 A body (2.75" bore) cuz the more front bias the better (same price too). If you do sand have a method to get em...

Which master cylinder for 4 wheel disk brakes

Eric I ran 76 (2.75) A body front discs with aftermarket (ceramic?) pads and 10" BBP 7&1/4 drum brakes in the rear (2&1/4"?) on a 65 dart with the OE splitter/no proportioning and a 1&1/8" alum dual MC & it stopped flawless and no excessive front pad wear. Pedal effort was fine (& I ain't that...

Which master cylinder for 4 wheel disk brakes

the rear piston "thimble" recess in the MC at the bottom in your situation must be shallower by the same amt as the thickness of the adapter plate for the pushrod length to be dead on the same in both. In my exp like NM9 the recess was deeper & I needed a longer pushrod.

Found a Source for 10” rear drums with 1-3/4” shoe

get a large sheet of stiff paper. measure the ID of the register hole on the new BBP drums. stick the point of a compass in the paper and trace a circle the dia of the BBP register hole. then trace a 2nd circle of 4.5" dia. then make a pinpoint prick with the compass at any place along the...

    7 1/4 rear brake question

What WPK said jogged my memory. iirc the 7&1/4 BBP and SBP axles with installed bearings wont interchange into the same housing cuz of the housing end/bearing change he spoke of. I'm wondering if that is what the machine shop is sayin...

    7 1/4 rear brake question

Clarify what parts you wanting to use. on the bearings I'd think the same & not sure what the machine shop is after. You could compare the 9" & 10" axles (the bearings) side by side

    Upgrading BRAKES >_<

What AJ & Del said, find out what is causing the lack of psi to the corners. Is the clearance between the booster rounded pushrod nub and the bottom of the "thimble" recess in the back of the MC piston good? Always been like this since built/converted? recent issue?
  25. Rapid Robert

    Bearings?

that is gonna be the dealbreaker there. clean yours in the solvent tank & blow em dry & (1) good visual for wear (2) compress it slightly in your hands & see if it spins freely/smoothly/no rough spots (3) no excessive clearance between the cage/rollers etc (good visual/use your judgement there)

    power to manual brakes

Look in the rear of the MC, the piston "thimble" and if it has a wide circular groove in that tapered barrel about halfway down then it can be used with a manual brake pushrod. Cut a piece of parts house vac black neoprene line & slip it on the rounded pushrod nub end so its in the groove then...
