Please critique my home front-end alignment method

I have a Longacre of that type. You don't put it on the rotor surface. (Crazy "pals" in China!) You take the dust cap off (temporarily snug the bearings to remove any wiggle), and attach it to the center of the drum/rotor. Leave the tires on it (inflate all 4 correctly). If you have aluminum...

Wow, that's cheap! I wonder if it's any good?

    Dart Sport Torsion Bar Diameter

I’ll have to look into them. I thought they were only MP.

    Dart Sport Torsion Bar Diameter

They were MP pieces for drag racing.

    Dart Sport Torsion Bar Diameter

I agree, the weight did explode. A shame. It's a street/ mostly strip car. Maybe I'll keep an eye out for the .810 bars, that I hear are now only available used.

    Dart Sport Torsion Bar Diameter

My 74 Dart Sport is a very low optioned 198, 3-on-the-tree. From the chart referenced here: identify these torsion bars please I would think it has .830 t-bars. It has .850. The car doesn't have a/c. I guess they could've been swapped out over the years, but the car was very original when I...

Early Vs. Late Steering Linkage Differences

I finished this today. I swapped the idler and pitman arms with new for a 68-72 manual steering. I replaced the center link with a used one from member barracudakid. I made a patch (shown welded in in pic) from exhaust tubing (same gauge), using cereal box cardboard to make a template. I...

Early Vs. Late Steering Linkage Differences

The car is all 74. I used Schumacher mounts to install the 360. The headers fit so well otherwise, that I'm pretty sure (Oh yeah, I know better, been hot rodding 45 years or so!) the right pitman, idler and center link will fit correctly. The way I understand what autoxcuda said, the pitman...

Early Vs. Late Steering Linkage Differences

That's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. I'll order the idler and pitman, and post on "Parts Wanted" for a centerlink. Thank you. The front end hasn't been aligned yet since major work being done on the entire car. My pan is stock. No grief there. But I've felt terrible since I gave that...

Early Vs. Late Steering Linkage Differences

Thanks. I was thinking that about the center link. But if I need a different steering box, I’m going to have to re-think this.

Early Vs. Late Steering Linkage Differences

That's an idea. I'll have to look at it again. It's been about 3 years. As I recall, however, it would take quite a bit to go around the existing problem. And yes, 68-72 parts MAY still interfere. But the headers were designed for 68-72, and fit well other than the issue that involves the...

Early Vs. Late Steering Linkage Differences

My 74 Dart Sport was a slant with manual steering. It's now a 360. When I put it together, I used 1 3/4 Hooker headers. I don't know the part number, but they list as fitting 68-72. They were NOS on eBay. They fit great except where they go around the steering linkage. I was a bit puzzled...

    Torsion Bar Grease

I was just thinking that it might be easier to change the bars car if it is tuned for the track. Because it doesn’t have many miles put on it. i’m sure the factory had a good reason. But I don’t think they care about if it’s easier to service. I will grease them!

    Torsion Bar Grease

Why are torsion bars greased in their sockets? I can only figure it's to quell sqeaks? Maybe prevent them from freezing in place? I'm re-assembling front street/strip suspension, and if I don't really need it, it'll make things easier in the long run.

How to Move Shackles in 3"

I set the pinion angle today and welded the perches. Pictures show my old school spring clamps and Speedway spring clamps. Speedway-Leaf-Spring-Lower-Shock-Mounting-Plate,3528.html I'm using the S6 springs too. Probably will be upgraded to Calvert stuff after it's sorted out.

How to Move Shackles in 3"

Thanks. I was thinking that too. Maybe they had a policy about hacking frame rails for the front boxes. But they could've done a nice, neat job.You don't want to see my welding on the front boxes. lol But I'll post the perch install photos and odds and ends as I install the 9".

How to Move Shackles in 3"

Ground out the holes and welded the sleeves in without the USCT brackets. I don't need them. They were more of a guide. After I took these pictures, (driver's side again) I mocked up the hanger and bushings to see if the bushings and sleeve would "play together well". The sleeve in the first...

How to Move Shackles in 3"

Here's a couple pictures. -My right angle grinder just showed up. Honey Do list gets priority today though. Here's a shot of a finished hole. (Drivers side, outside of frame rail.) You can see the tab that is part of the original shackle bracket and how it is welded to the main frame rail...

How to Move Shackles in 3"

The only info I've found about this is that it's "easy" compared to installing the front boxes. I guess it depends on the tools and experience one has. So, I thought I'd add my method, maybe it'll help someone searching this in the future. I decided to use the USCT brackets that I linked to...

How to Move Shackles in 3"

I was reading this: https://static.speedwaymotors.com/images/charts/Slider_Tech.gif I think it's more than I want to get involved with for a street/strip car. The stock hangers will be a pain installing, but I think I'd rather have them, as they are almost no maintenance. I do like the idea...

How to Move Shackles in 3"

I wasn't going to relocate my springs inboard, but my 9" has been narrowed somewhere in its past, and to get my Prostars to fit, I had to. I only had 3/4" from the rim to the spring when it was in the stock location. Anyhow, I have the Reilly Motorsports front boxes welded in. A-body inboard...

    Front disc conversion

You 72 and earlier guys are lucky. On my 74, I have to switch spindles to either a rare-as-hens-teeth 73-76 A body disc spindle, or a disc spindle from one of various 80's bodies that are equally as hard to find around my way. My car has 10" drums. I just emailed Willwood to see if they might...

    1973-74 B-body vs 1973-76 A-body spindle

Thanks. I’m thinking I’ll probably have to go with the “B” type, just based on the lack of a body versions left. It’ll be a while yet. I’m just looking ahead.

    1973-74 B-body vs 1973-76 A-body spindle

Thanks Doc. I thought he was talking 73- up. "Never mind". Seems like a good item for you guys to work on. Just don't release it after (or if) I go another direction! Even though the "B" etc. spindles are more common, that article I last saw on Mopar Muscle (I think), mentioned a big toe...

    1973-74 B-body vs 1973-76 A-body spindle

Got me excited there for a second. I'm researching the front disc deal and I need factory 73-76 disc spindles for my 74 drum car. I don't see them on Dr. Diff's site.

    Cupped Shock Washers

Okay, I didn't think they'd be big enough. I would try that, but tw7912 is sending me a couple and won't even accept postage. FABO is a great place. Thanks
