    Swapping big blocks

Crank flange bolt patterns are the same. I don't know if the flywheel can be re-balanced for the 400 or not, but if you use a stroker kit in the 400, you'll need a neutral flywheel anyway. It's unlikely that the 413 crank is drilled for a pilot bushing, but there are conversion bushings available.

    Swapping big blocks

If the 413 came from a 62-65 passenger car, then it will work, if it's a pre-62 or from a truck or motor home, pass.

    Grooving lifter bores

First, thank all of you for your comments. I used the tool per the directions and grooved the bores on Saturday morning. The result is a groove from the bottom of each bore that extends about 1/2 way up. This does leave a slight raised area at the top of each bore, something that was easily...

    Grooving lifter bores

The groove is from the bottom and extends about 1/2 way up the bore. The idea is to increase oil to the lobe area and not the valley. The oil running off the lifter will contact the lobe before dropping to the crank area.

    Grooving lifter bores

No trouble at all, the tool works quickly and efficiently and can be used on all Mopar engines. Using the Crower lifters would require purchasing them for every build, not to mention mixing lifters and cams from different manufacturers. The grooving tool is a 1 time purchase.

    Grooving lifter bores

This question is for anyone familiar with the process of adding grooves to the lifter bores for the purpose of improving lubrication to the lobes on a flat tappet cam. I am using the Comp Cams lifter bore grooving tool and in their instructions they say that for best results, the groves should...

    Exhaust manifold weight?

You should check with TTI regarding the actual weight of the headers, 45lbs seems like a lot. When stating the shipping weight are they using the dimensional weight for oversize packages that UPS charges?

    thermostat question

If your engine was running at normal temp reading on the gauge there is no reason to change your thermostat. It is normal for a closed system to fill the bottle after shut-off. The engine temperature peaks after shut-down. There are 3 things likely to cause the bottle to overflow: The most...

361 complete carb to oil pan

The 63 passenger car 361 crank is the same as a 383, therefore it interchanges with a 400. Pre-62 engines have the extended hub for use with early torque flights, etc. Now if it's a HD truck 361-2 or -3, then it's scrap. Either way, a 361 is not a good basis to build on.

361 complete carb to oil pan

What year is it? What's it out of? It may have value to a restorer. Otherwise, if it's post 61, the forged crank is a good replacement for the cast 1 in a 400 or late 383 2V, the stroke is the same. As for a buildup, it's not so good; small bore, limited piston availability, small blocck...

    413 swap

The 413 used in Motor Homes is a 413-3 HD truck engine. The cylinder heads are unique on this engine and require special exhaust manifolds that will not clear any passenger car K-member. These heads will not accept any other manifold or header, the exhaust bolt pattern is different to any...

    Just picked this up

Looks like you done good! I'm not sure you would want to run that damper weight on the extension housing though. There are 2 U-joint sizez used with 727s, can't tell from the pic which 1 you have, but the smaller of the 2 is the same as your 904 shaft. If that's the case you can use the 727 yoke...

    Just picked this up

Can you post a picture of the trans? If there is an actual yoke type flange on the rear that takes a U joint, it's probably a truck or motor home trans with the short tail housing. It's pretty difficult to make this work in a car. You would at least need a custom drive shaft. The best solution...

Performer or Street Dominator with TQ?

I'd go with the Performer, several years ago I ran back to back tests with a Street Dominator and a stock iron TQ manifold on the 440 in my W200 tow rig using the same carburetor and made no other changes. There was a noticeable difference in low end response between them and the stocker won...

    392 hemi into a-body question.

The 392 is considerably wider than the 426 as the combustion chamber is centered directly over the bore. One of the compromises in the 426 design is a slight offset of the chambers toward the crank centerline in order to mkae the engine narrower to fit better in the B body chassis. At 1 time it...

My first A-body, need some 383 advise?

I, for one, would be very interested in seeing what you can accomplish with this. Maybe it's due to my age, but I think we all get a little hung up on buying the latest trick parts on line and waiting for UPS to deliver them. A well built early A with a 383 could be a pretty cool ride...

Is this worth it? 1974 440

You should use the water pump housing from the 383, that housing on the 440 is a truck only piece and you'll end up with a pretty weird lower hose, if it'll even clear your K member. Also lose the MH exhaust manifolds. Other than that, you might be perfectly happy with the motor as is though...

    472 Hemi crate questions

So it's a 6 year old crate motor, had it been run previously or was it NOS? I have heard horror stories about the crate motors of that vintage, but wonder about the quality of the more recent ones.
