Help me decide on a floor jack

I'll also advocate for the HF "low profile" 3 ton steel jack. It's low enough to get under Mopar lower control arms. All of us should be aware of how valuable that feature is! I bought mine in 2010. It's so old, it "only" rated for 2 1/2 tons. After about 5 years, it did start bleeding down...

Help me decide on a floor jack

I was introduced to the air bumper jack in HS auto shop. Since then I've always wanted one. Finally, about 12 years ago, I accidentally stumbled onto one at a place I was buying other things at. It had been stored outside for at least a decade but still worked. (I have never seen one that didn't...

Product Review EverTough Nut Splitter 65126

I thought all those were basically the same. Guess not. The one I've had since the early 1990's has a spline down the inside to keep the chisel from rotating. I bought it specifically to split nuts on axle U bolts and it's done that for decades. Of course, the last time I needed it, I...

New out building / shop in the works !

I have a 30w by 26d You can get two cars in and open both doors on both cars, plus you can have tool boxes and work benches in front of them and still walk between those and the cars and...walk behind the cars and the doors. Possibly the "perfect size" for two cars. I can even fit a 42"...

    Vintage Alignment Systems

I bought a set from ebay. Nice quality with measurements and pins. IIRC $175 for the pair.

    Vintage Alignment Systems

I made my own toe gauge with square tubing, brackets and 1/2" EMT with some thumbscrews. WAY easier to use that the side of tire blocks. Slide it until it hots the inside of the tire, or wheel, tighten the screw. Measure the front, measure the back, subtract the difference. If uneasy, jounce...

    noisy air compressor

I got the hot dog and it sucks, too. I should have bought a better quality used one from a thrift store or pawn shop.

Looking into a steel garage, what good.

Concrete is a killer budget buster and has been for over a decade. I'm super happy with my 30 wide by 26 deep Carolina Carport. Can open both doors on two cars at the same time, or pack in three cars tight. I saved $2500 buy installing my own rear metal panels and frame (I paid for gable...

A better way? to keep RTV usable.

Florida cures anything solvent based real quick. This includes tubes that are unopened. Any caulk we have that we might ever want to use again, we keep in the house. Anything at my shop, PVC glue, tire plug cement, slime, etc...I keep in the refrigerator. Seems to be working at both locations.

    Building a shop, - ground anchors .

I use a simple 1/2 inch "Red Head" brand anchor. At least 4" into the concrete. I have one at the back center line of half of my bays. Haven't had any problems ever. One even pulls up hill. I use a come a long or a harbor freight 2500# winch. Those lag anchors are about $5 each but some...

    Hoist vs stacker

Some 2 post lifts have the connections in a tunnel you drive over instead of a "bridge". It does make it fun to position the car correctly. I've seen three 4 post alignment racks go through craigslist within 200 miles of my house in the past 5 years. Two had one air/hydraulic trolley jack, one...

    Sand Blaster Guns

Mine is the next smaller, without the external sand outlet, and it needs to be table mounted. Still can fit an intake manifold, though. What I do when the siphon tube gets clogged with moist sand or debris, is simply pull the tube off the gun, and "back blast" the tube. Works every time. With...

Shop Lighting advice wanted/helps with my employment. 3 bay layout, with GIANT I beams coming down lower than lights mounting location

My shop is 22x80, not quite as large, but also has 13-15' ceilings. I started buying Rural King store brand 4' LED shop lights a few at a time, when they were on sale back when the design spec was 4500 lumens. I intended to hang up to 4 or 6 in each 20x22 bay. I only got around to hanging 2...

Agree, it goes through media real fast. Gets frustrating if you;re trying to do anything larger than a quarter sized spot. ...but can work well for that.

    Hoist vs stacker

I can't verify the thickness of the concrete in my shop. I also want turntables to do alignments. ...and some 4 post lifts have optional sliding jacks. Those jacks make removing wheels easy. Plus a 4 post with jacks can also be used to stack a car for storage.

    Brains over Braun!

Looks like the pipe wrench is resting on the ball mount, not the bumper. I try to buy balls with flats on the sides or a hex base. It's still a ***** sometimes. I've absolutely done that same trick before with other stubborn bolts/nuts and a floor jack vs the weight of the car.

    Strap Wrenches!!!

I've used them for oil filters. Not limited to the clocking of the flats on the filter. Also for serpentine fan to pump bolts that requires a spanner wrench or other special tool I don't have.

Brake line flaring tool that actually double flares steel line?

I found an older National brand at a flea market and it works great, albeit a lot of pressure is required. The issue is the Manufacturing tolerance on the clamp. Newer cheap ones don't hold the tube and the force required to "double" the flair pushes it out the bottom and/or deforms the flare...

    Numbers Matching

The bad thing about pre-1968 Moaprs- they can't be verified as "matching numbers". The good thing about pre-1968 Mopars- they can't be verified as "matching numbers". If you have a later cast engine or block that someone swapped in, finding a "date code correct" block is MUCH easier than...

It can be date code correct, though. Better sources than me can explain that, though.

1967 can't be "numbers matching" as the VIN was not stamped on the engine until 1968.

    Recommendations for outdoor storage shed

That is exactly what I did with my 26x30. I bought a "Carolina carport" with sides and gable ends only, and bought matching metal siding at lowes for the rear wall for $1500 less than having it built that way, and installed rollup doors I bought direct from the supplier and installed them...
