Steering Column to Firewall Plate Fitment

Interesting,it was like this when I got it. Makes sense now that I think about it,not being able to find any pics that look like it. Aside from cosmetic, are there any functional concerns? I suppose I'll start looking for options to replace or maybe an upgrade...

Steering Column to Firewall Plate Fitment

74 Dart Sport, factory steering column. When I mock up my install there is a gap as shown in the picture between the column housing and the support bracket. As it's been too long since I tore this apart, is this to be expected or am I missing something? Just making sure the housing isn't...

    Subframe connectors......

1" x 2", and no cutting of the floor was necessary. I probably could have gone a bit bigger as there is still room before it contacts the floor.

    Coil overs???

I have an HDK and went with the QA1 promo star shocks. These were on the recommended list by Denny. Car is still engine-less so I can't speak to the ride. -QA1 7888-109 Coil-Over Thrust Bearing Kit - Qty 2 -QA1 DS403 Proma Star Coil-Over Shock, 15.000/11.125 Ext/Comp - Qty 2 -QA1 10HT550 High...

    Subframe connectors......

I have a 74 dart sport, but did have the same bulge on the drivers side. I also have a similar subframe connector design. I just used a BFH and shaped the fishplate to the frame contour and welded it in. Hard to see the bulge in the pictures, but it's there.

    torsion bar is a *****

I did this as well, used some cloth between the pipe wrench and torsion bar to avoid beating up the surface. Worked really well for me as I had the same issue with removal on the drivers side.

    U-Bolts: To re-use or not?

I replaced mine for no other reason than it was quicker and easier to cut them off with a cutting wheel.

    Gerst wilwood setup

Wilwood provides and recommends stainless steel kits. They have 14", 16", 18" universal ones available for a reasonable price. Edit: they are sold separately, not part of the kit.

What kind of paint are you using on suspension, steering, and brake parts?

Same here. Rustoleum spray bombs. Good, durable results. A few pics I have on hand.

    shock plates and u bolts

I believe this to be correct as well. I went from an 8 1/4 to a strange S60 which is essentially a Dana 60 and did not change my shock plates. I did buy new u bolts.

    Rear leaf spring bushings

x2 on the local spring shop. I brought mine in and it took all of 20 min before I had paid and was back on my way.

    chassis stiffening a painted car

I welded in the US Car Tool lower rad support and will have to repaint most of that area, but was to be expected. Mines blacked out so it will be pretty easy to finish up without anyone noticing. Edit: I need to figure out how to upload photos on the new site!

    Front floor jack points

I use an old cotton shirt (my shop towels) between the jack and the K member when raising it up to protect the finish. I have use a small scrap of wood too in the past but was never comfortable with "stacking" solid materials. Then jack stands at the frame rails as others have mentioned...

    cost to inboard rear springs.

I second this. I found a pipeline welder that does side jobs at 50$ an hour. I do all the prep and cutting prior, then the cost is minimal. Basically I have everything mocked up and clamped down before I call him to come over.

    Hemidenny K member club?

Got my HDK in last week and promptly installed it. Like everyone says its a great product and Denny is top notch to work with. I could only afford the K member right away, but it's a start! Had to use a come-along to pull the frame rails in about 1/4" before it would fit, but my original k...

Picture of 8-3/4" Shock Plates for Non-isolator A-Body

The curve on the shock plate faces down. There is a good diagram in the service manual on assembly. Here is one example of a shock plate stud replacement. I think I bought mine at jeggs. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Shock-Mount-Studs,5485.html

Picture of 8-3/4" Shock Plates for Non-isolator A-Body

You can also look for shock plates from an 8 1/4 as they have the same 3" tube size. If studs are bad, you can buy a new set online for about 15$, drill the old ones out and replace. That's what I did for mine. Posted via Topify using iPhone/iPad

I need help with rear lower shock bracket

You can buy a bolt to replace it. You'll have to cut the stud off the shock plate and then drill it out to fit the new stud bolt. I also welded the nut and stud to the shock plate after I put it in. Worked pretty good. Here is an example. I'd look around, if I recall mine were only 15$ from...

What's a good starter suspension system that can be upgraded later?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you want to install the subframe connectors with weight on the wheels; engine and tranny installed etc.
