I replaced the factory switch on my 65 barracuda with one I bought off of ebay a few years ago. It fits, the wires plug in the same, but the stem when pushed in does not lock. It has the lock release button, but it doesn't "click" so when I pull out for the headlights, the stem just pulls out...

I like having the front parking lights on with the headlight myself. On the 64 Barracuda, the parking light stays on with the headlights.

Make sure the engine block is well grounded. Several years ago, I had a valiant that would crank and crank, but wouldn't start. Small ground cable and Zoom!

I put mine from the rear valve cover bolt to the same blower motor. That should do it!

Yes, a good engine to body/frame ground is essential. I had a 65 barracuda and the strap was broken, car ran like a dog. I used one from an aircraft supply store (surplus stuff) and that helped a lot!

Can you post some photos? It does not actually go through, it attaches to or plugs into the inside sticking out into the engine bay about 1/2 inch, and the two plugs and two wires attach to IT from the under hood side.

Hmm. Did you try turning it 90*? There is a triangular protrusion that lines up with a slot. I'm perplexed?!

It is not! The tan wire goes to the blinker fluid level sensor!

before you change all the wires one at a time (which is fairly time consuming), follow redfish's advice and check/change the distributor cap. At high rpm and/or load, a tiny bit of carbon, moisture, etc. can cause the exact same problem as a bad plug wire.
