    1986 police engine

I have a high volume oil pump, and the pressure stays at or above normal pressure. The cooler has a heat sensitive valve. From what I have read the need to provide better oiling to the timing chain was why it squirts the chain. The crank to cam distance is long compared to most motors. So far so...

    1986 police engine

I have the oil cooler setup on my ‘67 Barracuda. Trashed the old oil lines and used braided.

    Help determining 340 cam

Personally I would recommend calling Racer Brown. He was recommended to me here on FABO and his advice was more realistic than what I got from Comp Cams, Lunati and Hughe’s. It comes down to buying a cam that fits your needs. Racer Brown Cams

    Help determining 340 cam

If the grinder id# are on the face of the cam. Why not remove the cam plug on the rear of the block? At the least you have a new cam plug.

    Cooler intake manifold

I have seen this type of fresh air setup done on Mopars before, using a dual snorkel air cleaner. The air from the vent box at the base of the windshield is supposedly under more pressure. Yes I know it’s a Chevy.

    oiling timing chain

Not run this thread into the Ground. But, I may have missed in this thread a mention of the need for a tensioner on the timing chain. Not to piss anybody off, but to explain what I know. Primarily the issue has to due to the center to center distance of the camshaft to the crankshaft...

    oiling timing chain

From what little I know mid 70’s to mid 80’ Gran fury and Diplomats. If you find one make sure you get the fuel pump and bolts. The top of the pump is narrower to clear the plumbing of the oil return line. Also take all of the oil lines and fittings to the block and fuel pump. The bracket can be...

    oiling timing chain

Here are some photos of how I installed the cooler and oil lines on my Barracuda. Do I need the cooler, maybe. I do believe my motor needs the oiling to the timing chain and the eccentric.

    oiling timing chain

I found two patrol cars in a Pick n Pull wrecking yard. Pulled everything including the fuel pumps and oil lines. As mentioned above, used one on Power Wagon. On the Barracuda, replaced the oem oil lines with braided lines and fabricated cooler mounts.

    oiling timing chain

I went a different route. Installed the E58 motor oil cooler assembly on the 372 in my Barracuda. It squirts oil directly on to the timing chain. Used the same setup on my ‘78 Power Wagon. Never had any backlash in the timing chain.

    Another “which camshaft” post

The best advice I gan give is call Racer Brown. He is easy to talk to and can find the right cam for any odd ball combination. Even mine, 372ci., 4-speed 3.09 first gear, 3.00 rear, 26in. tires

    Fluid Damper

The inside diameter was to tight with my damper. The machinist had to hone it to fit.

    Fluid Damper

I recently went through the damper offset problem when I installed a Speedmaster fluid damper on my SB. I used a 69 and earlier crank pulley that is 3/4" shorter than the later style crank pulleys. The power steering pump pulley lined up fine, the water pump needed a 1/8" shim. The longer crank...

    Build suggestions for 340?

Choosing a cam is like buying a pair of shoes, you need something that fits you and your car. There is a number of people here on FABO that know quite a lot more than myself. I did a search for info on a cam a while back and due to my application. I fallowed the advice I received and called...

poly or rubber spool motor mounts

Thanks, I will give the Energy Suspension bushings a try. The ones I have are rubber and are small compared to the holes in the factory brackets and I had to run a drill bit thru them to just get the bolt in.

poly or rubber spool motor mounts

The main problem I had was one just keep falling out of the factory bracket. Also they are way to tight for the bolts and did not fit into the K member well. I have run both poly and solid mounts in offroad cars for years. The noise was the biggest issue with solids along with metal fatigue of...

poly or rubber spool motor mounts

I just finally installed the motor in my '67 barracuda yesterday. And had more than a few problems with the cheap [or should I say Chinese] spool motor mounts. I have done some searching here on FABO and most people recommend poly mount vs. rubber. Are they as quiet and vibration free as rubber?

    Fluid dampener pulley alignment question

Forgot to mention. The early pulleys are 1/2” shorter and look stock. Industrial supply stores also carry bolts of the correct grade and length.

    Fluid dampener pulley alignment question

I just had the same problem with my 340. I used a pre-69 two grove crank pulley which does line up with my post-69 water pump and Saginaw power steering pump pulleys. I did use a shim for the water pump pulley. The power steering pulley was fine, it can be adjusted with washes. The bolt I bought...

    checking pushrod length

I also highly recommend OR Pushrods. The first set I ordered (Melling mpr157) to fit a T/A motor where not straight, the cups were not seated correctly and caused the pushrod to wobble. From what I have read on Fabo a lot of the other manufacturers have that problem.

Pushrod for hydraulic cam and 273 rocker arms

I just went through the same issue with my 273 build. You need 1 1/2 to 2 threads exposed after 1 turn preload. I ordered mine from OE Pushrods. Excellent price and quality. Buy the way have overall and working length available when ordering. Working length= overall- cup depth.

    checking pushrod length

I just went thru this process with my motor. When calling OE Pushrods you might not get hold of them the first time. But it is definitely worth it when you do. My set were approximately $40 plus shipping. Price from Delta Cams in Tacoma, WA $120+

Grooves cut into valve spring shims

Valve float makes sense. I thought it might be to much lift causing the damper to bind and cut the grooves. I should of mentioned that the heads are used and when I bought them I received them disassembled minus the valves, they where probably bent. The heads now have had a new set of shims, set...

Grooves cut into valve spring shims

What’s the cause of these grooves cut into the valve spring shims? They were part of the parts that came with a set of Edelbrock 60779 heads. The springs and the dampers look fine.

    273 rocker push rods

I talked to the owners son of OE Pushrods this morning (really nice guy) and began my order for new pushrods. Thanks, Krazykuda. Rocket, I checked the cups and springs for clearance when gauging the pushrod lengths. Pre-grinding the rockers for springs helped. The pushrod cups look good with...

    273 rocker push rods

Well I measure each rocker and came up with an oal of 7.266 average, or a cup to ball length of 7.108. Krazykuda, you mentioned using the nut locking style of adjusters. how much do the affect push rod length?
  27. bbab3

    273 rocker push rods

The ball and cup diameters match up close to the factory solid lifter 7.500 rods. The 7.234 rods are just to long. Some would rub against the rocker and not achieve zero lash. From what I have found from searching different threads is that that the adjuster needs to be exposed any where from 1...

    273 rocker push rods

Krazykuda thanks for the list of threads. I have read most of them previously and am planning on contacting oe pushrods when I have better idea of the length needed. RRR thanks for the lead on the crane push rods. they they have a "working length" of 7.185, the Melling mpr-157 are 7.234. The...

    273 rocker push rods

I just made an adjustable push rod from a solid lifter push rod. Planning on checking each valve with the proper preload and averaging the lengths. Just want to have the correct starting point. I will take some pictures. Thanks for the compliment on the color.

    273 rocker push rods

It was decked and has Edelbrock heads and new a new cam. Tried a set of Melling mrp-157 7.234” push rod for the 340 t/a motor and they are almost touching the rockers.
