    Cleaning the engine compartment?

Good tips on the sandblasting. Don't forget you still need to degrease it first. Caked on crud slows down the media, and makes it far less effective. Also, I'm now intrigued to try some of that Super Clean myself.

    Im sad

Awesome! Glad to see it's going to be saved. They aren't making any more Darts. Unless you count that facist hatchback thing....

    Im sad

I didn't know how to do anything, until I learned. And I have never welded professionally, so all my learning was from YouTube vids and practice. Don't look at the purchase of grinders, a welder, etc as cost to repair this one car. If you buy good stuff, it will last your lifetime with hobby...

    More than meets the eye

Yeah, too bad about the holes. I have no trouble filling 1/8" holes with my mig (I have a Valiant Brougham fender on my Duster). But this wagon has such a nice patina, if it were mine, I'd drive it that way for a while if there were no holes or marks from filling them. Oh well, it's in better...

Well guys, look what I got myself into..

Oh man, that's going to be awesome rolling that thing as a daily. I'd keep it just the way it is. Well I'd add a Mexican blanket seat cover, Port-O-Walls, and probably strap an old metal cooler to the roof rack. You are going to have a blast!

    rat or not to rat

Thanks! That was a project that got totally out of hand. The lessons I learned from that are in large part what is keeping my Duster on the road. I'll be picking up on the Beetle again this fall/winter, and hope to have it back on the road by spring.

    rat or not to rat

Oh, and FWIW, here is my "rod." Yes it's on air, and yes it rolls and steers at that height. The control arm angles (at road height) are suprisingly close to stock (2.5" drop splndles, 2" framehead drop, and shorter tires). Therefore it's as safe as it can be with 145/65/15's (Smart Fortwo OE...

    rat or not to rat

That is pretty much how I feel. While money is always an issue, for me it's TIME!!!! I just can't make the time right now. But I do have to get around. I'm putting 200 - 300 miles per week on mine, and while I want it to look better, I don't want to take it off the road while I work on it a few...

    Where to get weatherstripping?

Rock Auto has the Metro brand for $75.00 (that was for a Duster). I don't know if that's a good price or not. Just mentioning because I had checked there earlier today.

    Catalytic Converter on a 65 Slant 6?

Hmm, I use straight weight 30 in my lawnmowers. Maybe there is something to that.

    Catalytic Converter on a 65 Slant 6?

I'm no expert in this area, but I have smelled pretty bad smells from Cat equipped vehicles as well. It sounds like you have everything in order.Could it possibly be oil seepage on from the valve cover to exhaust manifold? It wouldn't take much. How about a rich idle circuit?

give me a reason to leave this thing original

I love it as-is EXCEPT for whatever is up with that grill. If it were mine (and I'd love to have it) I'd do a few simple things to make it stand out. Fix the grill. Paint the wheels body color, keep the same caps. Put on 2" or 3" whitewalls White fuzzy dice from the mirror, and add a...
