As long as you know that the right way is the wrong way on a big block. As in the pump turns anti-clockwise on a big block.

I looked at doing it that way but it seemed high risk (dropping the plug) and very difficult. For me it was literally easier to pull the intake and I got the whole think back together in a few hours.

Well I'd already run the engine for 20mins so it was all in the sump. I did wack some more lube on the cam before I dropped the intake back on though.

Update - Put the gallery plug in as suggested, got the manifold back on and everything together and she's got all the oil pressure in the world (funny that). Now for some tuning and dyno time. Hopefully we'll see 300rwhp+

It's in the vehicle, I've already pulled the intake and I'm confident I'll get it done without pulling the engine. Just having a lunch break first. My back is killing me from bending over the fenders all morning.

Holy ****! I didn't even see that plug! And yep with have a winner! On first glance it looked like oil was coming up through the shaft, but I just checked and it's actually coming through that hole.

Definitely going right way. I know the plug you're talking about and I don't think it has an exit near the oil pump drive hole, it runs parallel to it up to the oil gauge sender hole

Can confirm that the '82 model 318 I'm doing at the moment has head bolts in to the water jacket. Freaked me out at first because I'm used to early 70s small blocks. This early 80s engine has so many minor differences.

Ditch the vac sec carb and bolt a double pumper to that sucker for start. You've got a pretty decent cam there. Vac secondaries are great for the street but not so good at the track in my experience. But as long as it's running clean through the traps it sounds like it should be an 11sec car.
