look in truck yards or the truck section of your local junk yard I find 360's all the time in trucks and vans, a 5.9 magnum is a roller cam 360 and a great option

the cheap up grade for a 5.9 magnum is to use a 5.2 magnum cam as they are a little bit better (not much but every little bit helps, if you can get one for free right?)

only a few things you need to be aware of early A-bodies (like your 65) use a 122 tooth flywheel 5.9 MAGNUM'S use a 143 tooth flywheel you will need to convert to a late A-body 130 tooth flywheel this will require a later bellhousing and adapter or modified Z-bar...

how low can you go? compression wise that is 318's left the factory as low compression workhorse's with small chamber heads they are only 8:1 - 8.5:1 if you put large chamber 340 or 360 heads on one you will lower the already minimal compression possibly down into the 7's, great for cheap gas...
