    Yes that looks like the 8 1/4 axle. They are stronger than the 7 1/4 and are coming up in price as well. You will need that with a 360 engine.

    The transmission end goes inside the trans. and holds the speedo gear unlike the 66 and up that threads on a seperate speedo gear at the trans.

    How does a sprag work

    It has rollers that roll into a notch at one direction allowing it to turn. When run the opposite direction there are springs behind them that lock them into the top of the groove pushing them into like a wedge between the sprocket and the sprag housing to stop it from turning in that direction.

    It has been years since I did one but I remember you have to do the math between the pinion being removed to the pinion being installed. The pinion will be stamped .

    I would probably just spend the money for the B&M flexplate. I bought a 73 360 from a truck with an 833 behind it and discovered the wrong flywheel on it when I took the trans off. I pulled the pan and discovered a spun main. I am not saying the balance caused this but you may want to check...

    What is going to make it break a shaft is on turns both shafts do not turn the same speed. Slow on turns and it may make a few burnouts. lol

    Take the bellhousing off the engine and try to put it on the trans. If it wont go on the trans its the retainer size if it does then it is probably the crank hole as I said earlier.

    The crank may not be drilled deep enough for the input shaft. Was the engine an automatic before this?

    There is an arm that came with it different from stock and I always set mine in neutral and adjust the cable so it drops right in the hole without effort.
