    4 Barrel

Are we to assume this is a low compression 273 (not a Commando)? I believe Toolmanmike is running a high compression 273 with a Holley 600.

Anyone make a GOOD sending unit?

Short answer...No. I sent mine out to be rebuilt. About $200.

Fuel sending unit - leaking help advise

Mine leaked, so I replaced it with a Spectra. That thing didn’t read fuel level worth a ****. I sent my original to a place in Oregon to refurbish. Was expensive, $200, but worth it. Now I get good readings. The Spectra was just an expensive “gas tank plug”. Whatever you do, use the original...

FWIW, a 1403 Eddy (electric choke, 500) fit my ‘66 without an adapter.

Gasoline Disappearing from Tank ... Evaporation?

Thank goodness, jos, the oil is clean, no gas odor. d55, no ethanol sold in the Bay Area that I’m aware of, unless somehow they are mixing it in. Pumps and signs have no mention of ethanol. RichB, that’s another reason I don’t fill it. I did however, buy Slantsixdan’s gas cap. I haven’t put...

Gasoline Disappearing from Tank ... Evaporation?

I remember a time when gas prices shot up and reading that a full tank means less evaporation. I don’t understand why, but I suspect this might be true. Since this is still a “project car”, I didn’t want to fill it with gas and have it spoil over time. Just gonna have to get it out on he road...

Gasoline Disappearing from Tank ... Evaporation?

I have a fuel gauge issue to be resolved later. In the meantime, I write down how much gas I pump in my car, ‘66 Barracuda, and the odometer reading. Last August, I put 7 gallons of gas in it, drove about 30 miles. In October, went on a short drive, and found car running out of gas. I added 3...

How many fuel filters is too many fuel filters?

Yep, I used a clear for now until I know I know the carb is getting a clean flow. Then, I'm switching to metal, like RRR said.

    Aftermarket carb for 273 commando

I called Summit a few weeks ago and they had this in stock. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-1403/overview/ They probably also have the 1404 manual choke in stock also.

    Carburetor Noise

That's what I thought, Toolman, but learned otherwise. I had a needle hang open against the jet on one side on a stock open plenum manifold. The right side plugs were all fouled, the left bank's were dry. AJ and the forum helped me thru that one.

    Doesn't work for me either.

    No fuel to carburetor

Yep, sounds like a ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pump. Time for a new one.

    2bbl carb interchangeability

I would think so. My '64 273 comes stock with the BBD and I would guess the factory manifolds have the same bolt pattern and throttle openings.

    Carter BBD confusion

Yes, they open, or a better description would be that the blades relax open. I don't think the throttle shuts by itself with any internal spring. Your statement: "Upon installation i will have the throttle return spring on there and it will pull the throttle closed. if the spring ever...

    Carter BBD confusion

??? That doesn't sound right. Where did you get this Carter? You say "Funny thing i noticed about this carburetor is that the fuel pump diaphragm has a spring on the top and the bottom." I assume you're referring to the accelerator pump. I've had mine apart, it only has a spring at the...

Where To Get High Octane Gas...

Unless you're running a high compression engine that pings on the 89 to 91 octane gas you usually find in the gas stations, you won't notice a difference, you're throwing good money away.

    holley off idle bog

Did you run this carb before the rebuild, or is this new on your engine? If I recall, that has vacuum secondaries. There are an assortment of vacuum diaphragm springs available (color-coded) which dictate when the secondaries open up, maybe its not opening soon enough (spring too heavy)?

I am so sick of having fuel leaks

That's the problem. The double flare needs to seat against the base of the fitting. No flare guarantees a leak. This isn't the factory tube, I presume? A double flare tube is cheap, Harbor Freight sells 'em under ten bucks. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=40878

What do I do for fuel tank pad on a 65 A-body?

I just had the tank on my '64 Barracuda cleaned out, tube soldered. I didn't find any foam under the strap. There was a large pad covering the top of the tank which was OK. If I had to replace it, I would think sound deadening pad material would work, available from an autobody supply store...
