That's what I thought, Toolman, but learned otherwise. I had a needle hang open against the jet on one side on a stock open plenum manifold. The right side plugs were all fouled, the left bank's were dry. AJ and the forum helped me thru that one.

I would think so. My '64 273 comes stock with the BBD and I would guess the factory manifolds have the same bolt pattern and throttle openings.

Unless you're running a high compression engine that pings on the 89 to 91 octane gas you usually find in the gas stations, you won't notice a difference, you're throwing good money away.

Did you run this carb before the rebuild, or is this new on your engine? If I recall, that has vacuum secondaries. There are an assortment of vacuum diaphragm springs available (color-coded) which dictate when the secondaries open up, maybe its not opening soon enough (spring too heavy)?

That's the problem. The double flare needs to seat against the base of the fitting. No flare guarantees a leak. This isn't the factory tube, I presume? A double flare tube is cheap, Harbor Freight sells 'em under ten bucks. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=40878

I just had the tank on my '64 Barracuda cleaned out, tube soldered. I didn't find any foam under the strap. There was a large pad covering the top of the tank which was OK. If I had to replace it, I would think sound deadening pad material would work, available from an autobody supply store...
