Intermittent oil pressure/lack of oil pressure

I've had an oil pick-up full off nylon teeth from a factory cam gear that let go give an intermittent loss of oil pressure . Dropped the pan ,cleaned out the pick-up, and problem solved. Dissect the oil filter and check drained oil for any nylon particles ?

    340 Tuning - I need advice

A vacuum gage will show mainly problems with intake valve but a compression gauge will show a dead or weak cylinder as well as cylinder to cylinder balance then I usually follow up with a leak-down % test to pin-point how bad the valve or ring seal is.

    340 Tuning - I need advice

Brass is non-magnetic . (Pick-up coil has a magnet in it) I would recommend doing a compression check all 8 cylinders (throttle wide open) to rule out any mechanical issues .

318 running like a dead goat

Just a regular vacuum gauge from an auto parts store (probably mercury?)

318 running like a dead goat

Get a hand held vacuum pump and hook it to your distributor . If there is no movement when vacuum is applied the advance mechanism is probably froze up and just needs to be oiled.

318 running like a dead goat

The highest number you can get . A stock granny motor may pull 18 to 22 inches. A mild street motor may pull 12 to 15 inches. And an all-out race motor may only pull 6 to 10 inches. If you can feel a slight draw at idle that tells me the throttle plates are a little to far opened and are...

318 running like a dead goat

I don't have time right now to post any pics (will try later) one of the mopar mags has very informative articles on setting up and modifying distributors + vacuum advance for stock and performance engines. At idle (with a properly set up carb and distributor) there should be No vacuum to the...

318 running like a dead goat

So what your telling us is you have a total of 20 * of mechanical advance (not including vacuum advance).... 10* at idle is not alot when you have a long duration cam . Try advancing the timing to 16* or 17* at idle . That would then give you 36 or 37 total degrees at 3000 rpms. This will...

    Carb Tuning / Vacuum Problems?

Danielb927 what's he status on this thread .....did ya' get the problems worked out ? I also forgot to point out that one of the secondary venturis has carbon on it and the other looks clean ? (Maybe has something to do with EGR being stuck open )

318 running like a dead goat

What is the static compression (compression gauge reading with spark plugs removed and throttle wide open) and exactly which purple cam is in the motor ? You would probably be much happier with a smaller cam . I like the MP.528 solid for my average street 440 . (intake ,headers, and mild port...

max compression on pump gas\steel cylinder head\241 @ 50 cam

It's around 36 degrees . I put light springs (really light) and recurved the distributor . Something like 16 initial 36 total all in by 2200 rpm. Had MP 590 solid in motor ( way big for my combo...but all I had at the time ) car would run 110 in the quarter no matter what gear 3.54 or 4.88 or...

max compression on pump gas\steel cylinder head\241 @ 50 cam

My 440 Chargers got 185 psi (cranking)with 915 closed chamber heads milled down to 60 cc chamber volume on a stock 69' bottom end with a solid MP .528 cam. Runs fine on 87 octane . Violent bottom-end torque and plenty of power up top .

    Carb Tuning / Vacuum Problems?

Another thing to check would be carbon tracking inside the distributor cap. Sometimes hard to see on black caps . Take a good look at terminals #6 and #8 .

    Carb Tuning / Vacuum Problems?

Take it off...if you can blow air thru it ...it's stuck open . I have in the past just cut the shape of an EGR gasket out of a piece of sheetmetal and use that with high-temp permatex instead of the factory gasket to block off EGR flow definitively ! That way you can rule that out as a...

    Carb Tuning / Vacuum Problems?

Could the EGR valve be stuck open ?

Alright, why is this thing overheating?

Just a thought but sometimes when the thermostat opens the rush of waterflow collapses the lower radiator hose (broken ,corroded inner spring in hose) thus cutting off water flow.

    Turning over engines in storage

On my old Ramchargers and my back hoe I take either a deck sprayer or old paint spraygun and spray trans fluid everywhere ....under entire chassis,in doors, every nook and cranny, keeps the rust at bay...when ever a vehicle has a small trans leak ,there is never any rust where the oil leaks.
