    A&A Transmissions manual valve body

My guess is that it doesn't have low band apply in manual low. I would suggest chatting with Nick Allison from A&A, he is always happy to assist. I don’t know if he is on this forum but he is on “mopar 727 transmissions” on Facebook, or you can call A&A tomorrow. If this is the case you will...

Is the 65 A body floor shift not cable operated and requiring a 65 or earlier cable shift transmission?

    E body 8 3/4 value

Yes, I figure that I should be able to sell the 489 center section for at least $100.

    E body 8 3/4 value

I know it is E body but thought someone here might be able to offer an opinion. I have been on the lookout for a set of leaf springs, rear brake assemblies and housing ends so that I can cut down and mount my truck Dana 60 in my 50 Dodge gasser. This week a complete E body 8 3/4 came up for...

    727 on a magnum 360

To confuse you even more...... any quality neutral balance converter should have been balanced to zero, and may have small balance weights on it, but not the large external balance weights.

    727 missing a plate?

Yes, you are missing the small cover. You will probably find that the hole for the missing bolt is stripped, this is very common. If it is you may get lucky and be able to use a longer bolt, or you can heli coil it.

    Driveshaft measuring

Yes, push it in all the way until it stops. Allow it to come back out 1" and take your measurement from there. The boot may want to push it back farther.

Late shifts after new torque converter.

The 2-3 shift is almost always higher than the 1-2. This is why A&A sells a shift point corrector spring kit. They have two springs that you can experiment with for the 1-2 shift valve so you can match the shift points. With this, and their 5600 or 5800 (or whatever rpm you want, they have a...

Late shifts after new torque converter.

Yes, I would only suggest it for one gingerly drive around the block to see what the shift points are. Really, it is no different than driving the car at or just off idle and letting it go through the gears. Damage happens at higher power settings without the TV hooked up.

Late shifts after new torque converter.

From your description it is behaving exactly like it would if the TV (kickdown) linkage was hung up, not returning all the way forward at lower throttle settings. Being as you severely pulled on the TV lever to the point of bending it I strongly suspect that it is not going all the way back...

    Transmission debacle

Do you have a factory floor shift? If so do both transmissions have the provisions (lugs) for the floor shift linkage?

    Transmission debacle

Do you have a decent converter for either one? How about driveshaft?

    727 Towed in Park

Why not just pull the driveshaft first, sheesh. It probably, with all of the screwing around, migrated into R as it is next to P. They car will roll when not running in any gear other than P.

How to press on right rear axle bearing w Hydraulic press

Warm the inner race in the oven untill it is just too warm to hold, and chill the axle first (put it in a deep freeze or outside in a snow bank). Put a little lube on the ID of the race and the shaft first, bearing grease will work fine. The temp differential will help it to go together nicely.

    727 wierdness

Is your kickdown (throttle valve) linkage binding and sticking back? Do you have a return spring pulling the linkage forward?
  16. d55dave

Metal in the pan, shifts good, fluid great any guesses before I pull it down?

Could very well be coming from the converter. Flushing it isnt good enough. Send it to a good converter shop to have it opened up and inspected, otherwise your fresh trans could be contaminated again.

Swapping tail shaft housings on a 727

Absolutely you can. In a second generation a body (67-76) it will bolt in just like your 904 and uses the same mount. You will need to have your driveshaft shortened.

Swapping tail shaft housings on a 727

There is only one length of slip yoke outputs for the 727. The shortie motorhome and truck transmissions have a fixed output flange, no slip yoke and are not conducive to car use.

Manual valve body.. do you need a kickdown linkage?

No problem. From a magnum grab the cable, bracket spring and lever from the transmission (this all bolts onto a 727), and I also take the bracket off the throttle body. You have to modify the throttle body bracket to work with a carb, and fabricate a stud on the carb linkage to mount the upper...

Manual valve body.. do you need a kickdown linkage?

The bouchillon cable is better, it is based on factory parts from magnum engines and is more durable. That being said, you can build your own quite cheaply using the magnum cable and brackets from a wrecking yard.

Manual valve body.. do you need a kickdown linkage?

Yes, the first TF3 that I did I was unsure so I called transgo and they confirmed that the kickdown (actually throttle pressure) linkage is still required. I would suspect that the wreck is a result of a really harsh shifting automatic and tight sure grip or spool, downshift or upshift at...

Manual valve body.. do you need a kickdown linkage?

Completely depends on the valve body. As above, if it is a factory vb modified with a transgo tf3 kit into a manual vb it absolutely needs the linkage, or at a minimum to wire the throttle valve lever on the transmission wide open which will make it not street friendly. If it is an...

    8 3/4 powr-lok

I had one of the new reproduction powerlocks in an 8 3/4 Dart Sport with a 408 4 speed. It was fine until I added slicks and started to launch at the drag strip by dropping the clutch at 3000. It took 5 or 6 launches like that until it tore the spider gears apart. With an automatic and on the...

Shift kit AND manual valve body?!

This. A super loose converter, especially a cheap off the shelf one, will mask part throttle shifts. Wide open throttle shifts should be crispy however. Also, band adjustment, clutch pack material and clearance, fluid type, accumator spring removal or blocker, internal sealing ring health...

    8 3/4 gear setup

Kim, I respectfully disagree. Under power they push apart, this is why you have a bigger bearing on the inside of the pinion. They pull together on deceleration. I have seen the pinion marks on sure grips before on units where the nut was loose and the pinion walks backward when you decelerate...

A904: 1-2 shift happens early despite governor weight- any way to adjust this?

The trans doesn't have to come out to change the 1-2 shift spring, just drop the pan and valve body. It can be done in 1-2 hours. I agree, the factory linkage is far superior to the lokar bicycle cable. If you must use a cable either build your own using junkyard parts from a magnum engined...

A904: 1-2 shift happens early despite governor weight- any way to adjust this?

The kickdown adjustment will affect both shift points the same. If there is a split between the 1-2 and 2-3 that you want to correct you need to use the A&A 1-2 springs to make the shift points match.

A904: 1-2 shift happens early despite governor weight- any way to adjust this?

You have to change the 1-2 shift spring in the valve body. In addition to the governor weight, which it sounds like you have already changed, you sometimes have to put in a heavier 1-2 shift spring to make both shift points match. A&A transmission sells them, they are cheap. You will have to...

    727 Making Weird Noise

Converter starting to fail? It could also explain the debris in the pan. If you are pulling the trans it would be worth having a good converter shop cut it open and freshen it.

Car shifted into gear when in park...

I have also installed a few of these kits, and followed the instructions to a t. In this case it was that, even though it was in park, it was not all the way in park. When it was adjusted like this, if you brought the revs up it would always jump the park pawl and lurch forward. I ended up...
