    440 power guestimation

I say do a low cost rebuild like what your talking about. If it doesn't make enough power for ya you can always swap the heads later down the road .

**Who was lookin' for the "M" code manifolds...???**

Dang! I remember seeing a m code dart at a swap meet for $2k or best offer back in the early 90's. I should have bought it lol. The motor was gone but the body was rock solid. Nobody cared about darts back then.

**Who was lookin' for the "M" code manifolds...???**

I bet those things will be for sale for a long time before someone buys them. The 440 darts don't bring big enough bucks for someone to pay that much for one part .

Engine builders/Gurus, I need your help.

This may have nothing to do with your problems but in my younger days I put an engine together with the pistons notch facing the wrong direction and it made a ticking clapping sound when it ran. Lesson learned lol!

So just outa curiosity what was different between the hp motor and the non hp motor? I know the compression was a little higher and they had better exhaust manifolds on hp 440's.

    Decode 440 block

It looks like the casting says 3 3 72. the exhaust manifold is kinda hanging in the way . Does this sound right?

    Decode 440 block

Thanks for the help guys! I'll have to look at the cast date on the side of the block again and post it. I'm pretty sure it said 72 and it's gotta steel crank and an avs manifold so I'm pretty sure it's not a 73 motor.

    340 4 speed to 440 4speed conversion

I kinda got a soft spot in my heart for the 440. The first mopar I drove was a 440 TNT Chrysler . My plan is to build a bone stock hp 440 with manifolds and squeeze it in there. Lol if it's too much a pain I'll put the 340 back in it and find a nice coronet to put it in :)

    340 4 speed to 440 4speed conversion

Yeah I was hoping someone new what bell housing I need. I do remember now a buddy of mine having to have the bearing cover turned down on a hemi 4speed to put it in a small block . Stating to look like a real pain already.

    340 4 speed to 440 4speed conversion

I had an impulse shopping moment this weekend and picked up a 72 440 out of a dodge charger with stock oil pan , manifolds and alternator brackets . Just out of curiosity what would it take to hook up my stock a-833 trans to the 440 .What 340 parts can i use and what will i have to replace? I'm...

    440 wont start when hot.

Sounds like vapor lock to me. I had a 440 tnt Newport that had the same problem. I would remove the extra filter and shield the fuel line in the engine compartment.
