LD340 before and after porting numbers.

Without writing all the flow figures down i will throw in a guess that between 500 and 700 lift with the ported LD340 it will range between 263cfm and 285cfm and within 5cfm of the head flow from 100 to 450.

    Oh dear God! 318 stroker

Some of the aftermarket cast 318 pistons are far enough down the bore or that close to it that you could run a 360 (3.58) stroke crank with them and be at zero deck and 349 cubes at 30 thou over. I know someone who did this before stroker cranks became popular. If you have a 360 crank already...

500HP 410 Mopar with Trickflow heads

Rough durations specs on the cam Brian? I'm just curious what it took to achieve the 500hp mark with the trickflows.

    360 blocks

I sonic tested a few and the best I had was a 76 casting, thicker than an early block I had. I also tested several 318 blocks and they were also worse than the thinnest 360 I had tested.

    Let’s hear a 340 story

Back in the mid 90s i bought this 1966 VC Valiant, it had a 340 engine fitted but wasnt running as it was an early a body and needed work on the oil lines and exhaust given the narrow engine bay. In Australia the biggest engine option in this model was a 273. When i got it running i fitted a...

    Scream'n 318 ?

What point do you think it will become an issue with decent rotating parts or are you concerned about the oiling system?

Speedmaster intake porting. Hopefully I can make something out of this

Thanks for that, the engine seems to run very well with the stock victor 340 inlet, hoping that some porting will give it a bit extra again.

Speedmaster intake porting. Hopefully I can make something out of this

I saw the numbers on the ported victor 340 on the ported speedmaster heads, was just wondering if you flowed the stock victor 340 stock on the same heads. I might have missed that amongst the other posts.

Speedmaster intake porting. Hopefully I can make something out of this

Sorry for the multiple questions , is there a lot of potential available in porting the victor 340 inlet? A friend is running a stock one on a 408 stroker running ported cast heads and im curious if you think porting it will be worth the effort.

Speedmaster intake porting. Hopefully I can make something out of this

How do you think the ported speedmaster would compare with an as cast performer rpm inlet?

    Big horsepower 318 builds

I think if i was to attempt this i would look at a pair of the later closed chamber W2 heads with the high 40ish cc chambers to get some compression into a stock stroke 318 with a flat top piston. Mildly ported heads with a 2.02 valve so they arent too big and a solid roller.

SCAT 408 stroker crankshaft rear main seal leak

Ok, was just going to mention that a friends 493 had a big rear main leak. They discovered that the arp studs interfered with the main seal carrier just slightly and they had to do some clearancing to get it to sit flush. No more rear main leak after that.

Do you have arp main studs?

What size valve and what size stem were you running in them?

Cast vs. Aluminum heads and bang for buck..

I wish someone would make a small block mopar head in aluminium that looked like a cast one so they dont stand out in the engine bay. They could also sell them with the pushrod holes undrilled or multi drilled for use with either std location rockers or offset rockers and so they could be opened...

    340 Crankshaft bit the dust

If that part number is for an eagle cast crankshaft i hope they are better than their cast stroker crankshafts. I have seen several of those in two pieces on engines that werent big horsepower combos. I would use a factory cast crankshaft over a cast eagle crank any day.

Smallblock efficiency or How to have your cake and eat it too

Thanks for clarifying that. I think i had better keep watching this thread because it looks like i am only getting about 11mpg (US) from my 408 W2 combo. I suppose the 3.9 gears and converter probably dont help too much but im sure it could be improved. I have bought an afr gauge to try and get...

Smallblock efficiency or How to have your cake and eat it too

This might sound like a stupid question but can someone clarify for me which gallon measurement we are talking about,i believe there is one that is bigger than the other. Imperial vs US liquid gallon. I come from the other side of the world where we use litres and kilometres.

    Help on 408 build

If you want to keep the same cam regardless if you leave the j heads or go with some alloys the chamber size is going to be the same so pistons are probably the best option. If you are willing to change the cam for something bigger and do some alloy heads and slightly thicker gaskets you...

    Help on 408 build

Only a guestimate but it sounds like compression is in the high 11s assuming zero deck height and with that smallish cam and that total timing im not surprised it is pinging. Depends on what you want to spend on it now but most stock 360 heads i have cc'd have been around 72cc and if you put...

    318 head flow

I know some guys that have been experimenting with a stock stroke 318 and comparing it to a previous 318 with ported 360 heads. I think the difference in port volume has been an advantage in their current combination. Car is a full weight a body street car ,very mild hydraulic cam with a stock...

Ported Edelbrock versus W2 out of the box !

Mild 360/408 combo with 10.5:1 compression and a 248 at 50 comp magnum solid flat tappet, would barely have 520 to 530 net lift with the pushrod angles and lash. Wish i had ported the heads first time around but is stilla fun street car with room for improvement.

Ported Edelbrock versus W2 out of the box !

Me unfortunately at this stage! 11.7 at 116mph with a less than ideal converter and 3450lb barracuda. I wanted it together at the time so didnt get them ported but thought they left me more scope for later compared to the edelbrock rpms.

Sonic Testing ( LA Blocks )

I sonic tested several 318 blocks cast from 69 to 74 when looking at building a 318/ 390 stroker. Most of them were that thin that i wouldnt have dared building anything other than a stocker and some had to be thrown away they were that thin in several spots. My best 318 block was worse than my...

    Early 318 blocks

I sonic tested several 318 blocks here in Australia, some late 60s,some mid 70s and none of them were anywhere near as thick compared to the 360s i tested so i ended up going 408 stroker. Some i actually binned after storing them for many years as there was only 1.5 to 2mm thickness in some...

**NEW Edelbrock Victor Series Small Block Heads**

**NEW Edelbrock Victor Series Small Block Heads**

I realise it is possible to machine them to suit ,its just they arent a cheap head especially by the time they land here in Australia and I was hoping they would be a bolt on deal. Im looking to see if its worth buying a pair of these and running them as is or if i should spend the money getting...
