That sound dampening material is between the body and the pan, then there is a cardboard on top. In my car the factory sound dampener was all hard and brittle. It broke into little chunks when removed. I did a similar thing and used commercial sound dampener pads and a hunk of silver air...

When I took mine apart there was a gray cardboard (like poster board) glued on top of that and the carpet was stuck to the cardboard. I guess it helps keep the carpet from sinking into those grooves....

    66 barracuda dash pad

Two little corners strips need to be removed. I just removed and replaced a dash pad without removing anything under the dash. Took a 1/4 drive ratchet, a few extensions and a 3/8 socket. Be prepared to get in uncomfortable, stand on your head type positions under the dash though......

How do I remove theses buttons/switches 65 Valiant?

After reading the posts it seems the methods described leave the solution unclear. Your wiper switch should have an allen socket setscrew on the side of the knob itself. The headlight knob comes out with the stem attached after you press the button on the side of the switch body ( the rusty one...

Found: Retro Radio in a 65 Dart

I have had a Custom Autosound USA-1 in my car for several years. I modified a factory faceplate (which I know you said you do not want to do) to fit the USA-1 prior to sending the faceplate to be vaccum plated. I also had to file the radio opening in the dash slightly wider. I also used the...

Walmart has some sheets of foam in the hobby/ craft/ sewing section that works great for replacement on these doors. Just cut to shape and use some high temp spray adhesive like used for headliners.

    Vinyl Paint

I have used vinyl paint on seats in the past and it did wear off in spots over time. The SEM brand worked and lasted better than others I have tried. The trick is to clean them really well, then clean them really well and then clean them again really well with the cleaner for vinyl paint. The...

    What's that goo?

There is some gooey caulk like material on the inside of doors and panels that holds a sheet of plastic in place behind the interior panels. I have always just used gorilla snot, weatherstrip adhesive, or sometihg else I had on hand to re-affix the plastic in the past. What was the stuff used...

    65 dash in a 66

A friend in college had a CB radio catch fire and it ruined the dash in his 66 Barracuda. The wrecking yard wanted $90 for a tan 66 dash but he found a lady that had a wrecked 65 Valiant wagon sitting in the trees behind her house. She said she would take $20 for the dash . So we pulled that...

    rear view mirror loose

The correct method would be to disassemble it and tighten via mechanical means but a couple drops of superglue actually works well. Snugs things up nicely and it remains adjustable. One of the very few things I've ever found Superglue to be useful for!

68 Barracuda dash pads, which paint

I always use SEM too. The trick is in the prep. Cleanit, clean it, clean it... make sure it is absolutely clean, then spray. Vinyl seems to love to hang on to tiny bits of grease, oil, silicone, car wax etc. that you can't see until you try to paint it

Need to dye plastic. What dye do I use?

SEM for my vote too. Clean it, clean it & clean it again. Then use their prep and color and it will last for years and look great. The only failures I've seen using it are when the surface wasn't cleaned adequately.
