Total Brake Job on '70 Dart

I recently did a brake job on a friends Impala. We spent a whole morning looking for American made components. Went to all of the parts houses in town and looked at the rotors made by Raybestos,Wagner, Bendix & even Delco. We found that they were all made in China or Taiwan.

    ZFR5N plugs too long?

They do not hit in my 170 and it seems to idle smoother with them.

Who's running NGK ZFR5N in there Slant?

I converted my Valiant to HEI and put ZFR5Ns when I converted it. They have been working well for several years.

So what's the deal with spark plug washers?

Plugs are another emotional subject... everyone has their idea of what is best and what is worst. I run ZFR5N (#3459) in mine with excellent results. I do remove the washers too, as I have the drool tube heads.

    Spark Plug Help

The good plugs for the early slant sixes are the ZFR5N No. 3459 They are the extended electrode and get the spark into the cylinder where it should be. Whatever plugs you use make sure you remove the gaskets. The plug tubes take the place of gaskets on the early slants.

Clothes Pin On The Fuel Line?

I can't say if it actually worked or not but it used to be common to see clothespins on fuel lines. A friend must have used his Mom's whole clothespin bag on his 60 Chevy..

    weirdest engine

There's a guy here in town who has converted an old 70s four door valiant to full electric. It still uses lead acid batteries but if he'd ever update the battery system he would probably be able to drive it regularly.

what make model of carb for '64 slant 225

Model 1920 Holley would be correct. I'm not sure which exact one would be correct fot 64 though. The correct 1920 has linkage set up for the rod style throttle linkage.

Gas smell from my 6 banger

I had a similar deal on my '64 Valiant. It would smell with no trace of gas visible. I thought it was float related so rebuilt the carb. Still smelled. I kept checking hoses and the fuel pump but couldn't locate the source. Finally replaced the fuel pump even though there were no signs of...

Two Companies I've used: Clifford Resaearch has cams for the Slant Six. Crane cams will grind you one. Had a Crane in a '63 225 Valiant wagon in the 70s. It worked really well.

    To Re-torque or not

I installed the new 7" street rod headlights and '65 Cuda front turn signals just before the apendix blew out, and they look GREAT! Now to wire up the turn signal....wonder if I should stay with the amber bulbs or just go with white? Since you're wanting to go with the "New Tech" look why not...

Making Custom Headers for HS Senior Project

I have had a couple of sets of headers on slant sixes. They were 1-5/8 tubing about 40" long into 2-1/2 collectors. I think one set was Mopar Peformance and I don't remembe what the brand of the others was. I think maybe J/R. If you're not building for a specific RPM/ torque/ HP those rough...

Can I do this ? valve cover breather ?

I've used steel wool or the stiff plastic panel air filter material (like goes in a furnace) that looks like Scotch-brite and that seems to work ok too, with the advantage of never rusting...... Kind of a pain getting it in and evened out but once it's close it seems to even itself a bit.

    Slant Six mpg's?

My 225 in a 64 Valiant has averaged 16.7 since I got it. I keep track of all of the gallons that go into the tank and divide the miles on the odometer by the total gallons so for four years of only summer cruising it has done 16.7 MPG.

Raising Rear End with a Lift Block kit on my Slant six

I'm not sure how that would raise the back of your car? Looks like, if anything, when installed it would lower the rear unless your spring pads are on top of your axle like a truck.

    Electric fan????

I'm a fan (play on words...) of the 88-95 Turd Faurus 3.8L fan used in conjunction with a variable speed controller. I use the Delta controller on my cars but have helped install a couple of other brands that work well too. The Taurus fans, even if they are a blue oval item, work extremely well...

    orange box question

I never had a Mopar box fail until I "upgraded" to the orange boxes on two cars. They both failed. I went bax to the original replacement on my slant and put the old blue box (which requires the dual rsistor) on the other car and have no issues.

Just buzz on down to your local wrecking yard and pick up an electronic dist for the /6 and grab the control box with the plug. Just make sure the dist. has the vacuum advance (not the lean burn model). You will love this simple swap.

Finished building my Slant Six...time to start on a real one now

I had one of those just "a few" years back when I was young. I also had a Visible V-8 which was a small block Chevy. I don't know whatever happened to them but I have looked longingly at the E-bay auctions for models like yours but haven't been able to justify an actual purchase yet. I think...
