I have the same problem since I hooked the battery up backwards. (dont ask) On a 45 year old car the wiring gets brittle, it will engage fine when the motor is cold but as soon as it warms up all I get is ratatatatatatata, sos I leave the key on and jump it with a screwdriver. Starts right up...

I have replaced the relay, neutral safety switch, ignition, starter 3 times, Alt. reads strong discharge when I crank but does not turn over. Leave the key on and jump the relay with a screwdriver it starts just fine. I'm gonna start replacing wires on the inside next. But which ones????:banghead:

All the componnents have been replaced. The neutral SS wires were scorched by the exhaust manifold as far as i can tell. I will get another harness and try again, thanks for the insight. You guys are awesome!!!

I have a new starter, new battery, new relay, and a new ignition. Ammeter reads BIG dischgarge when I try to crank with the key. Starts when I jump the relay with a screwdriver. What can it be? I recently installed a HEI and bypassed the ballast resistor, but it started fine. Maybe a short???

Yep, installed it today on my 65 Barracuda 340 combo. Gets around like nobodys business, a set of 2000 Durango plugwires to finish the job. Eliminated the ballast resistor, no MSD or orange box either, pretty slick setup if you ask me. Says you can open up your plugs to.045 or .050 for even...
