No! Are you building a roll cage or a roll bar? The sleeve needs to be inside the tube, not outside. Have you read the nhra rule book?

Where are you wanting to put the splice? I believe it is acceptable as long as it is not within the actual cage. You can use this method on the forward bars or the rear bars but I do not believe it is acceptable within the cage itself.

The plates do not need to be 6x6 but they do need to be the same amount of square inches as a 6x6 plate, for instance a 4x9 plate would be acceptable. You can bend the plates to match the floor shape, not sure about the boxes you describe without seeing a pic.

Also, I don't remember the exact percentage but you can get away with only welding like 80% of the tube.

Your supposed to use a limiter to keep the motor from moving front to back. The motor plate only keeps the engine from rotating, you use limiters to stop movement front to back.

Ok, how fast do plan on going? If your going faster than 8.50 I would suggest getting an sfi book. That is what you'll need for anything faster than an 8.50 cert cage.
