Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

I think the things that this thread brought to my attention are, I'm a dinosaur for my age and would not be competitive in todays bracket racing, it's good that I don't want to bracket race competitively due the above reason, and I wish I could still street race.

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

Those things definitely make a nicer, more consistent bracket car. Even without those things I will always take the faster car because to me it's more of a challenge and just more fun.

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

I'm still trying to figure out if he learned it from Jpar or vice versa.

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

Sounds like you need to become one with your car grasshopper!:). The fastest car I had when I was bracket racing allot was a 12 second car but the guy to beat in my class had a 15 second wagon and it would just repeat every time. I must have a serious case of add because whenever I had a car...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

How are you fast enough to chase anything? oh, I got it, you chase the minivans lol, no wonder it's a sore spot for you!. Seriously nothing but respect for you and maybe some day I will bracket race in the modern ages, ah, nope, still hate it!. :) But I guess if I ever want to run a mopar event...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

Have you been to a race track in Portland Oregon .I have to say tire and suspension technology are light years away from what they were when I was racing and so are the time slips. I guess I am a bit nostalgic in my thinking at times but you really had to drive to have a relatively fast...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

The majority of bracket racers running for points around here are in the low tens, they don't want to deal with/spend the money for the extra crap involved to run faster.

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

Going faster and running it out the back door

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

My new car definitely fits that description but that's what I wanted to have fun and it's an entirely different animal than the car I bracket raced. Do you really believe that a twelve second bracket car is as easy to manage as an ten second bracket car?. Yes people can build very consistent...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

And the game is easier when you are the slower car, I have more fun winning less and being faster.
  20. lead69

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

I understand but the weather/track conditions are experienced by all the racers so it's really how much do you trust your vehicle?. Every "slow" car I have owned/bracket raced I made a full pass out the back door and it was rare that I ever broke out/lost on a "decent" pass. Out of all the times...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

And I say if a guy doesn't try to go faster in a drag race where is the challenge in that?, you should at least be tens by now
  22. lead69

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

Nope, did this stuff for years and it rarely works out that way if ever. In a field of cars where the faster cars outnumber the slower cars the slower cars most always outnumber the faster cars in the final rounds. The faster guys have more to deal with when they make a pass, it is the price of...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

Yeah, uh no, that's bullshit, That's also what those guy's say in their defense lol. Much easier to win/be consistent in a slow car that doesn't spin a tire and cut ok lights then to have to chase a car down and not break out when you are seconds faster. The slow guy sets the stage, to really...

Ford 272 C.I. runs low 11's. Why do Mopar guys need 408's?

This in a nutshell is why I hate bracket racing most of the time. A guy can jump in a 17 second minivan and clean house on a whole field of fast, well built cars and all he had to do was cut an ok light and leave it in drive. For me winning that way is like being proud of a getting a trophy for...

Nice truck my buddy just picked

I should say I am a big fan of them for a gas powered tow rig, they are overbuilt and the engines last forever.

Nice truck my buddy just picked

Comparing them to a 95 dodge with a cummins and they are terrible, comparing them to modern hemi and they are within a few miles per gallon I'm guessing. Thing is they seem to do about the same mpg empty or loaded in the 4x4 model and they are heavy rigs for sure!.

Nice truck my buddy just picked

Nice score!, those v10s are awesome engines all around, well except for gas mileage lol.
