The Kelsey-Hayes Disk Brake Swap Thread

Those factory shouldered bolts that hold the caliper to the spindle have a shoulder for a reason. Those replacement bolts probably don't fit very snug in the caliper and may loosen up over time. Could be dangerous.

    11.75 B body brake Q's

I turned drilled Porsche rotors all the time with no problems. Use super sharp bits in the lathe with slow feed rates and don't take big cuts. Never had a comeback.

Spongy pedal after big bolt pattern conversion

Thanks for the ideas, guys. M/C should be fine, I would think. Was installed new a few years ago, but it's a good idea to isolate it and check it. I was thinking that the rear brakes needed adjustment, so I tightened them up last week. Made things a little better, but didn't totally fix it...

Spongy pedal after big bolt pattern conversion

I'm having a problem with a spongy pedal after doing a big bolt pattern conversion. I have to pump the pedal once or twice to get a decent pedal and even then, the car doesn't stop like it did before the conversion. Here's the specs before and after the conversion. Before: Kelsey Hayes front...

Looking for brake line fabrication in south SF bay area

Another hint: use welding rod to make a template to follow. It's a lot cheaper and easier to bend them up, get them to fit how you want, then just copy the bends with the brake line.

EBC Brakes, Anybody use them before?

I recently asked some of my road racer buddies about EBC vs. Hawk pads. I was specifically looking at EBC Green pads. Anyway, my friend had EBC Green pads on the front of his Viper and he didn't like them. Another friend suggested Hawk HPS pads instead. I'm going with the Hawk HPS myself.

where to buy grease/dust caps for 11.75" rotors?

Scored a pair of NOS 894 caps on eBay last night. Thanks for the replies, everyone. Andy, who carries your dust cap installation tool?

where to buy grease/dust caps for 11.75" rotors?

Wow. $30 bucks each? I might look around for some online to see if I can find them cheaper. Is that the entire part #, Andy? If not, can you tell me the whole part #? I did find some listed in the Dorman catalog that might be close, but I have to find them locally and measure them. Funny...

where to buy grease/dust caps for 11.75" rotors?

One of the last little parts I need to finish my big bolt pattern upgrade is the grease/dust cap for the 11.75" rotors. I've looked around online, but haven't been able to find any. The bore in the rotor measures 1.8" diameter plus or minus a couple of thousandths. Thanks!

Brake hose routing - Viper 11.75" kit

two more quick questions - Where did you get the drilled & slotted rotors and does that banjo fitting on the brake hose have a 20 degree bend? Thanks again for your help!

Brake hose routing - Viper 11.75" kit

Thanks very much, Pauly! This helps a lot. I was wondering if the hoses should go between the tie rod and the control arm or not. Looks like you have them routed to go in that space between the tie rod and LCA. This gives me a good place to start.

Brake hose routing - Viper 11.75" kit

If anyone out there has put the AR Engineering Viper caliper kit for 11.75" rotors on their A-body, I'd like to see some pix of the brake hose routing and also get the length of the hose you used. I'm putting them on my Barracuda and the info from ARE says to get a 17" hose from Goodridge...

    Viper brakes

Yes, go to Rock Auto and look for mid to late 70's Cordoba wheel bearings. They should be the same part # as 73 - 76 a body drum brake wheel bearings. I think when you click on the part #, it brings up a list of what vehicles in fits. Either that or there is an "Info" link for the part, which...

    Viper brakes

THey do fit under most 15" wheels. You'll have to check yours. I'd have to weigh a caliper. They're not light, I can tell you that.

    Viper brakes

Oil Filter Service Co in Oregon makes the hoses. Last I checked, their website was down. The URL is in one of the posts in this thread. I've been busy and lazy and have not done this swap yet, but I have everything but the hoses.

    Early Disc Brake ?

Yep. Par for the course. Rebuilt mine once when I first got the car 20 + years ago. I painstakingly unstuck all of the pistons, cleaned up everything only to have them seize up again a few years later. I had more money at that point, so I sent them off to have stainless sleeves & pistons installed.

    Early Disc Brake ?

The taller m/c is the correct one for the KH discs. It's actually a bolt-on extension so the m/c has more fluid capacity for the calipers. My car had one too. It's also a KH disc car. I recommend replacing it with a dual m/c, though for safety.

    Early Disc Brake ?

I assume they are 4 piston KH discs? If so, they are notorious for the pistons seizing in their bores.

pauly v.100 - You want to look for 73-76 a body 10" drum spindles. I don't have the forging number handy, but they are out there. Many junkyards have them. I bought a set from somebody here or on BBD, I can't remember which. If I find the forging bumber, I'll post it here. AndyF- Love...

    Viper brakes

I bought mine from a guy on this forum http://classifieds.viperclub.org/showcat.php?cat=46. I paid $300 shipped for a perfect pair of low mileage 97 Viper calipers. Lots of Viper guys upgrade their brakes, so you shouldn't have a problem finding a pair there. I watched and bidded on quite a few...

    DOT-5 fluid anyone?

I'm following Richard Ehrenberg's advice. Read it here: http://www.moparaction.com/Tech/quest/BINDER_JUICE.html In a nusthell, he says it's OK to switch over to DOT 5 in a system that previously had DOT 3 or 4. Regarding the advice from a BMW guy that was posted here. I don't put any...
