    318 +.030 Dieseling

Another thing that may be contributing is if the carb is getting hot, Edelbrock carbs are prone to boiling the fuel, which can help contribute to the dieseling.

    Deck Height Variance

Moper is correct. Here is a link to BHJ's site which will help you visualize what square desking involves. http://www.bhjproducts.com/bhj_content/products/blueprintfixt/bt1_intro.php I have personally seen decks on SB mopars vary as much as .018" end-to-end. That is huge. The least...

    Purple Cam Design Question

Harold Brookshire is the guy's name. I usually stay out of the Purple cam threads because they quite often turn into pissing contests, but here's my .02 - Purple cams have fast open rates, but also have very fast closing rates (more than likely a mirror image of the opening side), which...

    edelbrock performer rpm/ comp cam

I'm not a fan of used cams. Too much chance of trouble, even with only 1500 miles on it.

    Purple Shaft 280/280 cam

Got the same cam in my 340. High idle is the only way to keep it at a stable RPM. This cam makes only 9" of vacuum. Also, calling it a 280 is misleading. It's really 288 @ .006", which is the SAE way to measure seat duration. I've said it before and I'll say it again. These MP cam designs are...

    another cam question

Lunati Voodoo 268/276: http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2343&gid=297 You can buy it from Summit Racing. You'll also need matching springs.

    383 power?

I have to disagree about the carb. My car had both a Carter and an Edelbrock carb on it. It ran like crap especially with the Edelbrock. I could not tune out the off idle flat spot. Now it has a Holley 650 DP and it will idle all day if you want it to. I barely have to give it any gas when I let...

    383 power?

Don't worry about the heads. Run a cam that wasn't designed 30 years ago. The MP grinds are all old technology and junk IMO. I wouldn't run another one if you gave it to me. I recommend one of the LUnati VooDoo grinds. Also, if it's power you're after, ditch the Edelbrock carb and run a Holley...

    Low Vacuum Issue/Big cam

I agree with the two people who said that cam is too big. Too much duration @ .050", especially for the lift. Yank it out, sell it and put in a Lunati Voodoo 268 cam. It's time people started realizing that MP is resting on it's 30 year old laurels with regard to cam design. While you're at...

    Question for head porters

I have this die grinder from Makita: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004YOKS/?tag=joeychgo-20 It takes some getting used to. It spins at 25k rpm. You'll want ear protection as well as really good eye protection. This thing is noisy. Also, get a junk head to practice on before you turn yourself...

    Mopar Performance Rockers

I'd like to add that I think that most of the parts are "seconds". My experience building my engine showed me that the quality control is less than zero on many MP parts. At least it was back in the mid 90's when I was building my 340. I built a 360 for a friend and he insisted on ordering MP...

    Another 75hp please

Go with an Edelbrock carb if you want to leave HP on the table. They are easy to tune, but don't perform at WOT like a Holley. I picked up 4 mph in the 1/4 mile just by switching from an Edelbrock carb that I messed with for months to get it tuned as good as it could get to a Holley 650 DP...

    Why Are Edelbrock Cams Unpopular

THey don't list it on their website, but I'm sure you could special order it. Look at the specs for the SB Chevy Performer RPM vs. the Summit part # SUM-K1107. The grind is the same for a SB Mopar.

    Why Are Edelbrock Cams Unpopular

Here's the scoop on Edelbrock cams. They are the EXACT same cams that Summit sells. They are made by Camshaft Machine Co, which is the largest cam grinder in the US. They make OEM cams, too. You can get the same grind in an Edelbrock box, a Wolverine Blue Racer box or a Summit box. They all come...

    edelbrock heads on a 318

Check out this article from Hot Rod magazine. They got 400 hp from a 318 using the same cam you have. http://www.hotrod.com/howto/113_0304_318_small_block_build/index.html

    Whats Wrong Combo

Another vote for scrapping the GER converter. They are paperweights. I knew a guy who had one in a Coronet. It was supposed to be around 2800 stall. It stalled to 7000! I've heard stories from other people about GER converters being filled with shotblasting media.

Old Edelbrock Tarantula Intake Any Good?

Sell em both! Get the RPM Air Gap and a modern Holley. Manifold technology has come a long way since that Tarantula was designed. Hot Rod did a test last year on a 383 using a bunch of different manifolds and the RPM Air Gap outperformed an old Edelbrock single plane by a mile. I don't remember...

    the right cam

You can get more lift with less duration with other grinds. Don't forget that your net lift will be lower with a solid because of lash. I'd look at a Lunati Voodoo grind if I were you.

    Next retarded question

You won't hear high speed detonation while going down the track. Pinging is one thing, but high speed detonation leads to melted pistons, blown head gaskets, pounded rod bearings, etc. By the time you hear anything while running nitrous, the damage will be done. Plus, nitrous is an instaneous...
