You should also know that there are a number of pieces involved which do wear over time, specifically some plastic rollers that may need to be replaced. You might not notice if you aren't looking for it. Good luck!

One item to note is the cars which came with fiberglass hoods used a different hood spring. The alternate spring was lighter weight as the hoods tended to curl from spring tension.

Do not paint your car any type of enamal without using an additive to cure it.

I wouldn't call you stupid over this and it is likely not so serious as you think. I would expect that if you hit it with an orbital sander, then spray a good sealer on it followed by a high fill primer, sand the primer and then more primer if needed you will be likely near ready to paint...

This is Highly dependent on what type of paint used and if your paint include a catalyst or hardener. If you did not use these items you must definitely wait, even if you did you should talk with your local rep, they are usually a well informed resource.
