    Edelbrock mid throttle problem

after reading your post again about 2 step and 3 step rods. 65Val i did remember that chrysler did have some AFBs with 2 step rods. i think around early 60s maybe on 413s. i sure you all know to NOT mix any parts from a 2 step with a 3 step set up rods.

Which is better - 90 octane no ethanol or 93 octane 10% ethanol

i solved the methanol trouble by useing Marvel Mystery Oil. 4 oz in 10 gal of gas. and an other way to get the MMO in is to check this product out. WWW.ampcolubes.com its is like the old organal Marvel Mystery oil top oiler. with the MMO my engine seams to start very fast.

    Holley carbs. Love'em or hate'em?

"Holley, there is a reason all the fast cars run them!" have ever raced an old Max Wedge car? er i mean beat one?

    Idle issue on my 440...

have done a LOT of carb work on AFBs i think Carter says that the shaft should have NO more than .004-.005" clearance. i would put bronze oil-lite bushings in them.. if you dont know how DONT try it. the main tricks are seating the throttle plates. which if not done right will make...

    carter avs jet question

yes i think the A.V.S. had a diff dia acc pump. the right kit should have the right pump. any good carb spicalty shop should have just the pump. just search the internet.

    carter avs jet question

dont for get the tall jet MUST go with the tall rod, 3 step, and the dome cap. DO NOT mix the flat top , short rod, short jet with the tall parts. also the jet does NOT have to be put in tight just snug will be fine. do NOT force the taking it out. if it does not come out easy put a...

    Edelbrock mid throttle problem

here is the link to the AFB / jet /rod program. that my son made. its a copy / reproduction of the one i did on the old Commodore 128. in basic. it will calculate any combination of jet / rod change and give you the % of change. but it can not tell WHAT jet / rod to run. that...

    Edelbrock mid throttle problem

i for got to say that when changing jets and rods at the same time you can NOT guess at what you end up with. but i have posted a program that will do the calculation. may be some here can remember where it is. and some of the Carter AFBs on mopar did have the 2 step rods, that are...

    Edelbrock mid throttle problem

IMHO. if the engine is close to how chrysler made that engine. tune the carb close to the same jetting and springs that chrysler did. i have found that the eddy carbs are jetted completely diff than chrysler did. and the way chrysler did them is about as good as you can get.

fuel pressure with eddy 1407 carb.

i have found that Carter AFB and the eddy clone like 5/16 float level. stock call out is 7/32 i think. i had a 1965 300 L 413 AFB that plugs was a little lean. when i went to 5/16 float level it was just right. EDIT; i just looked at my 1982 Carter AFC performance products cat...

    Thermoquad top gasket leak

the float is plastic. some times it goes bad and takes on fuel and sinks. to test if its bad take the float out after its been in the carb. set it on the table same as if in carb. and push the metal lever down. if float is filled with fuel it will pust the metal lever back up showing...

    Help reading spark plugs

rejetting Carter / Eddy carbs is NOT stright forward. the short story is you can NOT change the the Jet and rod at the same time and know what your change was, by guessing. i have a computer program that i wrote years ago that can calculate it. i have posted the link on this site...

    Help reading spark plugs

how many ways can i say LEAN? LEAN and LEAN AND LEAN... try one or steps colder plugs. and reset the float level to 5/16. but not any higher. dont for get with the lid upside down a low number is a HIGHER fuel level.

    Dual quad question?

IMHO. the idea goes for the duel carb as goes for the single carb.. in that ALL blades get to wide open at the same time. and on a duel set up it should idle on the front plates of the rear carb to get the fuel distribution right at low RPM. but remember a very big carb might have lazy...

holley 1920 carb swap with carter 3238s?

IMHO, the carter carbs have better circuits. and are very good.. but if it has sat a lot the gaskets might be hard. there is one or two screws that go from the top casting to the bottom casting do NOT over tighten them. that will warp the castings.

    adjusting carter avs 4426

adjust the small screws like you would a regular screw. but if it has to be 2 or more turn out you have the well known, lean idle jets. that are in the primary clusters. its the small brass tube. you will need the small drill bit set. the tube is necked down at the bottom the jet is...

Carter 2BBL carb- I am stuck

if idle mix screws dont do any thing the most likely thing is a vacuum leek. if you had the carb off recheck the base gasket. or the gaskets in the carb. the two screws that go from top casting to the bottom casting do not overtighten them else it will warp the castings.

    Avs 4425s vs 4615sa

when that carb came out the chrysler factory racers found out that the air valve above the secondarys was set to loose. they set the spring tighter fixed the trouble. the resetting is a little tricky. the factory has a spacial tool but it can be done by hand with some care. and i have...

AVS carbs not the same ?

i thought 1968 V8s 4 bbls was AVS. the ones with the flat spot off idle. easy to fix by drilling the idle jet. one 1970 300 440 car i fixed by drilling the idle jet only .001"

    Holley 1920 Very slight stumble...

starting in 1968 all / most chrysler engines had a lean i idle circuit. the carter carbs can be fixed by drill ing the idle tube. and are easy to drill. most are .032-.035". takes a spacial drill bit and steady hands. and you only drill .001"-.002" at a time. but the holley carb is...

    Holley vs. Eddy

i have found that the eddy cabs in the past made the mettering rods with the steps way more differance than stock mopar AFBs. so if yours are like that try to adjust them to be more like the stock mopar AFB rods. if the engine is close to stock. a full race will much differant. and i...

    Edelbrock part throttle surge help

many years ago a friend had a 1968 dodge van with a slant 6. it had a lean idle. holley carb 1 bbl. getting to the idle jet on it was very hard compared to a carter. the short story is it ran so good it would idle at 250 RPM very smooth. coarse that was not RPM we used on the street...

    Edelbrock part throttle surge help

you have a lean idle circuit. the fix is to drill the idle jet. easy to do IF you know how. the size is around .032-.036. drill only .001 or .002 at a time. if dont know how you can damage the jet.

    Edelbrock part throttle surge help

ok i am thinking of the AFB on stock chrysler big block. sorry. but the 5/16 does work. i had a 1965 300 L 413 stock AFB. the plugs was a little lean. so i bumped the float level to 5/16. then the plugs looked very good. i tried the 5/16 cause i had a bunch of spec sheets...

    Carter BBD 2-bbl Identification Help

hints for that carb. the two long bolts that go from top casting to the bottom casting. be sure and dont over tighten them. the castings will warp. the float level is 1/4" i have done lots of them and all of charts only have the one float level. AFB charts have several diff...
