    Vent Wing Glass Frame Interchangeability

The upper hinge on my 69 Dart wing glass is broken (driver's side). I have a frame from an early 70's Dart, but from looking at the 69(with a mirror) it appears to have a different internal support at the top of the door (bottom of the glass) than the one from the 70's car. Will these two...

69 Dart Wing Glass Frame Replacement

My weekend just got "rescheduled", so it will be the middle or end of this coming week before I get a chance to work on the door. I removed the plastic rivet at the rear of the glass. When I get it out, will take some pics and post them. May be of help to others. tx for the...

69 Dart Wing Glass Frame Replacement

I'll work on it some more some time this weekend. Will let you know how it goes. Could not get that little plug/clip out where the door glass connects to the regulator. It looks like it's a compression fitting of some sort. Will spend some time and figure out how it works. tx for the...

    windshield trim clips

I don't know any other way than to take out the glass first. Screws that hold the clips go into the body metal perpendicular to the channel that holds the glass. Be careful getting the glass out. Rear window is fairly easy. Front windshield can be a real bear. FWIW good luck.

69 Dart Wing Glass Frame Replacement

The one still installed in driver's side door has a broken clip (part of frame) at top part of glass. Have an entire assembly ready to install but can't get the old one out. It is loose and will move a little. Looks like it should just lift up and out. Is there some trick to getting it out...

    Reducing Clear Coat

Was gonna paint the engine bay in my Dart. Mixed the stuff 4:1, just like instructions say. It was thick as pancake syrup. No way a spray gun would move it. Tried reducing it with urethane reducer and lacquer thinner.........both times it separated with a glob of stuff floating like a yolk in...

Help With 69 Dart Rear Glass Installation?

I need some instructions. Does the filler strip have its own adhesive or must one be applied separately? Is a heat gun needed to make it stick? etc.................comments appreciated.............James

    Painting a Bumblebee Stripe

    1) If I mix a small amount of white paint with dark red, will I get a bright red? If not what color should I mix with the red? 2) Should I remove the masking tape immediately after painting the stripe to make a smoother border line? Thanks.............james

    Mixing Mud for Skim Coat

What are the secrets for mixing (or applying it to car)? I have tried several ratios of harderer/filler in the mix, but it always dries with a sticky surface that clogs sandpaper at first. I can rub baby powder on it before doing any sanding and it helps, but there must be a better way. It seems...

    Centari vs American Finishes Paints

Thanks Dallas. Will 1500 work, or should I buy some 2000? I'm just experimenting with the panel, so not in any hurry..........james P.S. I was thinking of waiting two weeks before doing any sanding.

    Thieves

If you remove the locks and take them to a local locksmith, they can install new tumblers, and make new keys to go with the modified locks. Also, I have a toggle switch hidden under the dash, that disconnects the starter solenoid so the car cannot be started using the ignition switch. Glad no...

    Centari vs American Finishes Paints

I sanded the panel smooth (hood of car), and applied a couple thin coats of Centari. It did not "lift", but the finish is not as glossy as I would like. Just for kicks, I'm gonna try wet sanding and buffing it. How long should I wait before trying this? I've applied the Centari to other...

    Centari vs American Finishes Paints

As near as I can tell, none of the paints actually "separated" (lifted) from the steel panel. It has urethane primer under the AF paint. It's just a rough surface, like a "matte" paint finish. So I think only the Centari lifted. I'll look at it tomorrow and probably just sand everything smooth...

    Centari vs American Finishes Paints

The AF paint was applied about 3-4 years ago, and most of the clear has been sanded off. The Centari was applied about 24 hrs ago and has hardener in it. Think I'll wait until tomorrow, sand the panel smooth, and try the thin coat approach. I have some sealer, just want to see if I can make...

    Centari vs American Finishes Paints

I have a Dart(grocery getter) previously painted with AF base/clear and now sanded down to just the base. Put some Centari over it (test panel) and it lifted.........not too serious, just a rough finish. Has anyone here found a way to make these two brands compatible? (this is definitely a low...

    Paint - Repairing Base Coat

1)The run is in the base. 2)Not metallic paint............just plain white.........when finished, car will be all white with a red bumble bee stripe. Nothing fancy, just a 318 grocery getter. 3)I have lots of time to get this done, think I'll paint one side at a time, giving it two to three...

    Paint - Repairing Base Coat

Took the hood off my 69 Dart to paint it. Hung it vertically so I'd be able to paint both sides. Had two problems: 1) Got a couple of runs (on outer side, of course). Tried to repair it by scraping runs with razor blade and painting over it. It looks marginal. Should I just wait, sand, and...

    69 Dart Radiator Mounting Bracket

A couple of questions about this picture: 1) What are the tabs (highlighted) for? (This was originally an air condx car) 2) The tabs are currently bent (in a curved fashion) upward. Are they supposed to extend directly outward (straight) from the bracket?

Different Types of Primer - Explain?

Thanks for the replies. I'll follow your recommendations and get some aerosol urethane(ur) to cover the areas I'm re-working. Then I'll apply a complete coat of ur. It will probably be a few weeks before I get the car painted. Just gotta get it done before cold weather.

Different Types of Primer - Explain?

I'm re-doing a dart that was primed with Urethane (yellow) and painted with base/clear. During blocking and filling, some areas are down to bare metal. This car is going to just be a driver, but I want it to look nice. 1) Is it OK to temporarily prime bare spots with lacquer primer and later...

    Body Filler Too Soft

I did not get enough hardener in the 2-part spot putty. I could tell while applying it, but thought some extra cure time would solve the problem. It's been almost 2 days since it was applied. It is solid and semi hard, but not hard enough to sand...........it clogs the paper. What's the best...

    Trunk Finish Panel Restoration Advice

I did one on a 68 GTS. Used an airbrush. Takes lots of masking and patience. My biggest problem was the panel had a few small dents in it. So, it's not show quality, but looks good enough for a driver and weekend cruise in. Sorry, I don't have any pics.
