    Dana 60 worth it?

Well worset case you will have no problem getting 250.00 got the posi dana rear so If that is what your looking for I would buy it. I narrow them all the time to make a-body rears. If it is 30 spline You might want to just get a set of 30 spline mopar 8 3/4 (as long as the 30 spline are the...

    Rear End gear Whine

Stroker, the pinion is not the problem if the rear did not whine before as an open and NOTHING was touched on the pinion. The backlash is the problem... You will have to pull the pig again. Get a dial indicator with a magnetic base - check the backlash. if the backlash is .007-,010 you will be...

    8 3/4 questions

They are many ways to get the right answer Alot of the rear diff work is touch feelie ... That is why a lot of people do not do the work... It scares most people to build something where the specs can be referenced differently by manual etc. The bearings have to be tight enough so there is NO...

Mancini Racing still selling Yukon axles that are 3/8"-1/2" too long

If at all possible try to buy parts from someone who specializes in their field. Engine stuff from engine builders trans stuff from trans builders rear end stuff from differential builders etc. Sometimes the KNOWLEDGE you get with the supplier is worth more than the discount you get from a all...

    What Causes "Howling" Rear Gears?

Strokerscamp is correct. And also the more you drive it in the wrong set-up the worse it will get and you will NEVER get it to go away. The combination of the pinion depth being to depth or too shallow with wrong backlash will make this a noisey rear. SO very slight whine could be present on...

    9" ford

If you shorten and respline any axles you have removed the harden surface so take the toll if your going to run them hard. Just a added thought before thinking you are saving the big bucks when your splines twisted and or snap off the end. Good luck, Jim

Mancini Racing still selling Yukon axles that are 3/8"-1/2" too long

ONE last thing you can check. IF this is a POWER lock or a CONE sure grip they have 2 pieces to the side gear and cone. ARE THEY LINED UP! THE splines could have spun out od alignment... CHECK this because it will be yourt 1/2" distance. CHECK THIS.... Take care, Jim J D Race.com

    9" ford

Well when was the last time a A-body 8 3/4 was produced? lol. They just are not around in stock form and the ones that are are under cars. We can make the housings from other wider Mopar housings BUT that will have some labor involved too. 500-600 for a full working rear is not out of line...

    What Causes "Howling" Rear Gears?

SAW DUST! :D Now that is technical.... I think you guys named just about every moving part connected to the rear...That really narroweded it down for him...lol. Normally look to the carrier or pinion bearing. Biggest cause of a failed pinion bearing is the NUT backs off the yoke. which...

Bolt pattern Should not be a big issue since Mopar has a 5 on 4 1/4 like ford does you must have the small 5 on 4" TIME TO UPGRADE ANYWAY...lol. Spring perches again NOT a big deal. Cut and paste...lol. :) Only think you need to watch for is the backspacing of the wheel if thr new rear is...

    how does this pattern work

Yes - MAny companies will do this with gear sets. It is nice to know what type of gear we are dealing with as some are a 5 cut process gear and some are 2 step process gear. The gear you have appears to have a 2 step process cut making the drive side pattern LOOK like it does. Kind of a...

Axle Retainer Nut Torque w/ Green Bearings?

well I am sure we all know the 741 is suppose to be the 10 bolt chevy rear of Mopar 8 3/4" rears. :) Now the 489 and the 742 are some times a toss up Some people think the 489 is better because of the big shaft 1.875 bearing but also takes more material out of the case which some say make...

    how does this pattern work

What kind fo gears are they? If they are a 2 step gear that pattern may be as good as you will get on the pattern. If they are I would run it as the coast side looks pretty good. Jim

Axle Retainer Nut Torque w/ Green Bearings?

You do not want a TON of it just paint it on to just get a nice even light coat so you can not see the dark or shiny color of the tooth do about 6-7 teeth both sides and when you do spin it have some resistance on the ring gear go around 3-4 times one way and 3-4 times the other. See what you...

Axle Retainer Nut Torque w/ Green Bearings?

I would pull that third member and check the pattern snap some shots and will have a look see. It could be starting to finally break down to the edge of the gears meshing and will resonate a whine noise when coming off each other. Bearings also can be checked with a tug in and out up and down...

    how does this pattern work

YOU ARE CLOSE... :) You could run it like that and it might be alright. To me it looks a bit shallow on the pinion depth- WHY- Look at the sharp line and the heavy depression and dry area where the marking compound was rubbed away on the drive side (concave side) it is a bit higher on the...
