Need some help from my head machining buddies

I just sold my Peterson TCM-25 with the better fixture and all tooling and manuals for it. It’s a great machine and you should be able to cut whatever you want. Only real issue is the spindle rpms are preset (gear selection) not fully adjustable like more modern stuff. Also the table floats vs...

Who you guys in the northeast using to build your strokers??..

Duane’s still around ( here too) but I don’t think is working full time anymore. One of my machinists no longer builds complete engines due to time and lack of margin on them. One shop was sold some years ago. I’ve been doing this a long time and times change.

Who you guys in the northeast using to build your strokers??..

Stroked has been here a long time and knows the same shops I do. Least I thought he did. There are plenty of shops around- only a couple I might recommend. None are cheap- so if you want cheap I can’t help. I wouldn’t recommend anyone north of me. I build for a few people that trust my...

What YR said. I’m not in agreement with time passing, but it does. People that love these are (for the most part) are in their 50s or older. Younger enthusiasts have been buying Gen3 daily driver musclecars for more than 10 years now. They look at the old v8s as cool but nothing to build or...

    Motors

If I was starting a program I would go Gen3. The old-school V8s are going to go out of style, and quickly. The Gen3 stuff you can walk in and buy like the X blocks in the 80s. Cheap (in regard to the times) and available. And fairly strong - strong enough to do what you want anyway.

Check in on your local machine shops guys

My "perfection" shop is not balls out, but not slow. My secondary place is a one man shop and he's always backed up. I just finished my last customer build, the next one cancelled mid-stream due to getting laid off from this crap.

Splayed main caps on a 360?

I'm not convinced 4 bolt caps in a standard block are worth anything. The power level is fine for 2 bolt aftermarket caps. If it was me I'd use lighter rods, or aluminum unless you subscribe to the "timebomb" theories (I don't). Girdles are for old ladies. If you think you need a girdle, get a...

New turbo 350 Sfi case by ati at sema

The transmission has to deal with the power coming in, and the traction coming back through the driveshaft. If a mopar made 1100hp, and had the driveline, tire, and suspension to stick it, any torqueflite would come apart. There's not enough mopar racers to make that kind of product viable for...

Looking for comments and install pics of the Drag front suspension with the 2" drop spindles... Early A - not the later As.

    Tame my 4-speed Stroker....

I didn’t really think a respectful disagreement was Cheerios pissing. I was curious, hence we’ll see. Guess I’ll go back to lurking.

    Tame my 4-speed Stroker....

Oh no, light aluminum flywheel with a steel insert. And yes, the pressure plate had a twin just in case, and had a special setup for him that took him some time to get right working with Hays. Ran a Jericho, and it was 11-teens at about 480hp. A very efficient car with a truly hyper-focused and...

    Tame my 4-speed Stroker....

I can tell you the fastest stick car I've ever had any real experience with didn't slip the clutch. NHRA SE record holder, heavy car, making under 500hp. 9" slicks. leaf springs, traction bars, and very expensive for the times double adjustable shocks. Ram 3 finger PP and I think sintered iron...

    Holley's science vs Edelbrock simplicity?

It's to the point now that EFI will make it all outdated. Carbs are a great choice for me, and yes, decades of experience, fast cars, yada yada yada. But for the vast number of newer (or older) enthusiasts the EFI kits will become the "goto" induction. It's a stupid debate at this point, really...

How would you build a low 10’s street car

I'm going to guess by the post that you (OP) do not know what "streetable" means on a 10 second car. It's really not what you think it is, and certainly not like what you may find in terms of modern muscle with boost that can run those numbers with power windows and AC. Again basing the amount...

    Holley's science vs Edelbrock simplicity?

They're both using the same science, and doing the same things, in similar ways. The fact you indicate there's any difference already shows you're off the mark and reducing it to emotional personal choice.

    Checking Sprag

In 1st gear the only “fixed” part is the low reverse drum. In breakaway first the low reverse band is holding that too. In most bargain manual valve bodies and automatic valve bodies in Drive, the band is not applied in 1st gear. The kick down drum is spinning because the forward clutch is on...

    Checking Sprag

Sorry - the info I had is very different on the rpms the drums would survive at. It's a lot lower than what you're saying. I know of two that have let go at engine speeds below 4K. One while on the two step, one as the car was moving in 1st gear. Maybe I'm confused...lol. Been a long day.

    Checking Sprag

Also - you can't see anything by looking up through the pan opening. It has to come apart and the parts looked at "from the pump end" without the low reverse drum in place.

    Checking Sprag

“, the stock drum can turn 15k rpm and at such rpm is a ticking time bomb” The drum speed is normally much lower. About 1/2 engine speed when the sprag is functioning. If the sprag breaks or fails, the drum accelerated to 2-3 times engine speed. It explodes normally around 7-8k, or 3500-4K...

    Checking Sprag

Only way to know for sure is to tear it down and look. Cheaper bolt ins can flip the spring retainer thingies too. I’d look if it were me.

This is what it ran , how much is left in it

Look at the data - ignore the power rating from the dyno. Once you get the convertor issues and shift rpm ironed out, and the incrementals where they look more reasonable, then take those results as the power level you have for the engine in your car. My impression is it's closer to 400hp in...

Front Runner and how they affect ET and Speed

It's a difference in roll out and how that effects the staging beams. Larger diameter will light both bulbs, and will not roll out of the "stage beam (which starts the clock) as quick as a shorter roll out. I used a 28" front tire, and deep staged at times.

Why are people scared of the drag strip?

Those that give excuses have either never been there, or have deep concerns about actually knowing how good or bad their car is. They thrive on dyno numbers and stories at shows and cruise nights. Basically they like the reality they can create, without having the added complication of actual...
