    1963 Barracuda convertible

I read on the internet that back in 63 Chrysler was doing experimental body styling exercises trying to make Mopars look more like GM products, as a way to increase car sales at the various Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge divisions. One of the styling experiments was the black painted engine bay on the...

How do I "Torsion bar inspection"

I doubt that a direct replacement torsion bar cross member is available for a 1962 Valient. You will need to look for that. Try a parts wanted post. But be careful, any OE 62 cross member that you get is as old as yours. Get lots of photos prior to the purchase You may be able to modify a cross...

How do I "Torsion bar inspection"

Pressure wash the torsion bar cross mount and the front ant rear torsion bar mounts. Blast away at the accumulation of grime-grease-grit and rust. That will enable you to do a visual inspection. If it passes that, get something like a 1/4 to 3/8 inch diameter punch with a flat on the business...

1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

And if I was neighbors with Rusty we would certainly be doing some good car building and car bulling together. Would be awesome to have a near by car buddy.

    Anyone Auto-X their early A's?

@slant six check out the build thread that Greg has on his 64 Dart here on FABO. Nice work on a neat car that is actually driven and autocross raced.

    Roller Rocker question

Do all shaft mounted roller rockers have roller tip and adjuster end oiling? I had heard that the oiling at the adjuster end is more important than oiling at the roller tip end. Is that true? why? And do stud mounted rockers also have oiling at both ends? thanks

    273 Exh Port MisMatch

Since the other 3 ports on that same head are in the proper position it looks like the one port had a misplaced or broken exhaust port core when that cylinder head was cast in the foundry. I would look for a replacement head. If you choose to repair the existing head, to properly weld gray iron...

1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

Rusty do you leave the motor mounts attached to the engine when pulling and installing? I have tried several different combinations. The most recent was on the 83 D150. I left the motor mounts off completely and the engine slid in pretty nice. This is with an a833 transmission. I had the bell...

A cold air intake to the carb will also help.

Rusty, for a red slant six, I painted my last one Rustoleum Regal Red. IH Red is a nice color, the Regal Red is a close match, maybe a shade deeper.

The Most Devastating Engineering Miscue Found in Early A-Bodies

I don't know either, but Dr Diff says there ain't much difference between the three,, Pinion Comparison - Quality Body Shop Drivetrain and personally, I have seen axel shafts twisted at the spline end, gears stripped from a ring - pinion and once the bearing caps blown off, but I have never...

The Most Devastating Engineering Miscue Found in Early A-Bodies

Not exactly only an A body issue. Does anyone have information on why Chrysler did three different versions of the 8.75 center section, 741, 742, 489? There is just enough difference between the three to make the gear sets non interchangeable, but not enough of a difference to make one truly...

What clutch are you using on your early 273

the 10 inch clutches with the scalloped sides will explode if ran through high rpm shifts,,, I know of two folks at .org that have had that experience.

What clutch are you using on your early 273

thanks, but those are all 130 tooth flywheel, thesirien74 said that he knew of a good Ram clutch for a 122 tooth flywheel, that is what I am interested in

    A/C Question? After Market System

I added AC to my 68 Barracuda using a Classic Auto Air system. The instructions were good, the parts fit fine, the AC works great. With Classic Auto Air you re use the OE dash heater/ vent/ temp control unit, with some modifications. The advantage of a new unit is the modern AC components...

1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

Believe it or not, I had a pressure sensor (the one that screws into the tail of a slant six oil pump) fail on the slant six motor in the D150.. traveling down the highway it failed and leaked out enough oil to trip the light on,, that sensor had been on the vehicle for a bout 40,000 miles...

1964 Valiant "Get Runnin & Drivin"

Every slant that I have seen has the bracket on the driver side only. The brackets are unique for an A833 and a 904, so I would expect the small 3 speed transmission bracket to also be specific.

64-66 Barracuda Race Cars Post your Pictures

Those early A bodies really look good with the altered wheel base, the proportions just look right. They may have sold more if the factory had made them that way.

Dat Tru, I remember my Dad back in the 60's going to the local Dodge dealership and ordering a new car, he would bring home brochures showing colors, interiors, hub cap options,,, and let us kids looks over what our new car was going to be. Seemed like it took a month or more, but eventually Dad...

my 1968 Barracuda has a dash tag, so it appears that VIN numbers appeared prior to 1969. also I have seen comments that some internet VIN and plate decoders are not accurate. Does anyone have names , internet locations on the ones that are right?

You said it your self, pilot builds, are made shortly (6 weeks) prior to serial production, the original poster was talking of a car assembled 3 months (12 weeks) early. Also those ‘pilot’ build strategies are problem detection tools that are used today. I wonder if those were even employed by...

Does not prove that Richard Petty did not order the car under discussion. The car was built to a sales order number, it had to be someone’s order, it may have been The King’s. Although I think it was Elvis’s.

I have a 1967 coupe barracuda with a low serial number and shipped march 1966.

Perhaps, but prototype cars would not have been built on the regular assembly line and as such would not have a fender tag, VIN,build sheet,,,hence its is really hard to prove a pedigree on those.
