Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

It’s pretty close but it would have to take a bracket failing or something major for it to hit, plus the rubber cover makes it look closer. I was concerned the weld would pull apart but it was fine. I have used the same technique on header clearance issues, looks cleaner than the sledgehammer...

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

On that valve cover, a socket hit with a hammer made a nice u shape spot for clearance. I have the same ones, just put a thick rubber boot over the connector as well.

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

You will need to either internally regulate the magnum alternator (what I did) or use a electronic mopar one. The diesel truck guys have been internally regulating because the factory harness has it in the ecu and it fails. There’s a kit, I can’t recall the part number. Nates68

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

Oh and my noisy borgeson box was over boosted with the van pump. I put in a 2.0 gph flow control valve from jegs. It’s better but still a bit light even with 7 degrees of caster!

Confused what to do with a 5.9L serpentine setup

Here’s my 68 barracuda with the van bracket and magnum 5.9 truck brackets on everything else (it’s the ac delete alt bracket). Works great. I did relocate battery to trunk, which I assume you will too with your build. Nates68

    Van power steering bracket issues

That second picture really shows the difference, thanks!

    Van power steering bracket issues

Yup, that pulley looks higher to me. Jos said his worked for him, hopefully it was with the van ps bracket and not the truck. I just bought a non a/c bracket on eBay! Will post results. Thanks!

Jos., you have a picture of your setup?

    Van power steering bracket issues

Like Redfish said, the smaller idler is an interesting idea. I had thought about moving it up a bit, not sure where to mount it in the casting though. All in all, looks like I have a plan!

    Van power steering bracket issues

Ok thanks all for the info! Fabo always comes through. What was confusing was this diagram that said it was for a van with no a/c. I may be running a/c at a later date so I will just have to use the dorman part for now. Was hoping for a cleaner look, maybe even the bracket that is alternator...

    Van power steering bracket issues

Thanks, I tried routing the belt that way, but was concerned about the alternator slipping.

    Van power steering bracket issues

Installed the power steering bracket on my magnum swap so I would gain battery tray clearance like others have done. However, when I route the belt like the factory van/truck diagram shows (for no a/c) it hits the water pump pulley. It's like the water pump pulley is too large. It is a factory...

Magnum with LA air gap intake and serpentine

Ok can have one made on CNC from billet alum. I will post a pic of my mock up part. Going to make a thread to see who all has interest as the more made=cheaper price. One other option is to use a Weiand supercharger offset neck, but it's $180, for a Chevy, and strange looking. Nates68

Magnum with LA air gap intake and serpentine

Meeting with CNC fab shop next week. Looking at making an aluminum water neck that is offset. If I can get the thermostat in great, if not will use an inline one. Nates68

Oh and thanks all for the help, really want to come up with a repeatable solution for everyone considering this setup. Nates68

Magnum with LA air gap intake and serpentine

I guess I'm not understanding using the post on the intake. Unlike a LA motor, the magnum has all its support in the cast bracket, with no connection to the intake. Are you thinking a bar that crosses over to bolt to the underside of the compressor? Worried that even with the bracket cut the ram...

Magnum with LA air gap intake and serpentine

I was just going to trim that post down, the cast bracket is bolted to the front of the engine. Thinking of making a bracket to go from the thermostat bolts to bottom of a/c compressor if I cut the corner off the factory one.

Magnum with LA air gap intake and serpentine

Yeah, I have been staring at it and that would make it so easy. Just can't bring myself to cut it yet. I know some just cut it and run it with 3 bolts, that would bug me Nates68

Magnum with LA air gap intake and serpentine

I have read a few threads on using a complete ram serpentine setup with aftermarket intakes for magnum, but not for LA drilled eq heads and intake. My motor is a magnum 5.9 but heads are eq with LA bolt holes and a LA edelbrock air gap. I wanted the option to change intakes later so I chose LA...

    Magnum bore taper?

By cleaning up do you mean a flex hone or just the carbon on top? I know the magnum rings like a 30 degree crosshatch if I hone it. Nates68

    Magnum bore taper?

Yeah I know it would be the right way to use a gauge, I rarely use them however. A basic set would be good. My biggest concern was the rings not sealing. There are more than a few on here that are running stock bottom ends, including the magnum swap dart that runs high 11's in the quarter...

    Magnum bore taper?

Been reading about how the magnum light tension moly rings and efi are friendly to the bores. I have a motor that has 120k and had a blown head gasket on no.8. Pulled it apart to put new heads, cam, timing chain/tensioner on and clean it up for my install into a 68 barracuda. Was going to just...
