    What temp thermostat do you have in it 180 to 195 is I believe standard temp for t-stat. If you have a non electric cooling fan the temp would go higher because you aren't move and less air moving over the radiator. Have the cap test to see if it holds pressure It might not be the problem at...

    I agree. The engine still is producing heat so you need air flow for the coolant to dissipate the internal engine heat.

    Is it an a/c system? Make sure your controls are working properly. This is a good idea with or with out a/c. The doors that direct the air flow may not be opening properly or you my have debris in the duct work.

    Yes the back is missing it should loo like this. The blue bullet shaped thing is the light bulb socket and the blue part is the bulb cover.

    Don't know if this helps. It's from a 68 service manual for a 273 Valiant. 318 and 340 should be the same. I don't know if they made changes for the Duster or not. It's the way my 68 Barracuda 318 should be set up with the 3 vacuum hoses. I don't know what year they started using the vacuum...

    The majority if not all of these cars came from the factory with a 180 thermostat according to the owners manual.

    If you have heater water control valve it probably does matter. Go by what the manual says to be on the safe side.

    I have the wiring diagram for from my 68 Plymouth service manual. Don't know if it's the same as a71 Dart. You would someone here would have one for your year. If no one responds I can scan mine and post it. But as I said don't know if it's the same. At least my post will give yours a bump...

    I agree with everyone about thermostat and fan, etc. One thing that wasn't asked unless I missed it. When was the rest of the cooling system flushed? We know the rad is new.

    I think it's vacuum activated. you may have a vacuum leak in the hose or the diaphragm.

    I don't know if this will help. It's from my 1968 Plymouth service manual for Valiant or Barracuda. 1970 may be different. I shows what line goes where. It might give you some idea. A manual for your car would be of better help.

    I'm not sure if it's the same as in my 68 Barracuda but the housing comes in two parts. One has the heater core and the other houses the evaporator core.

    My 68 Barracuda came apart in two pieces . But as BWDART said you would have to block off the opening where the two connect or find a heat only unit.

    I too have a 68 Barracuda that had factory a/c originally . It was taken out before I got it. Someday I would like to reinstall it and maybe upgrade, but still make it look as stock as possible. Any picture would be nice. Mine has a 318.
