You're correct. Plates were issued in alpha-numeric order. Your black plate was later than the plate my old 340 Swinger wore. Hang on to it!

Both California black plates and blue plates were issued to new cars in 1969. The previously-owned '69 340 Swinger I purchased in November 1969 had black plates. The plates were toward the end of the black plate era because the first letter on the plate was a 'Y'.

Have you tried doing a search on the plate through Pennsylvania DMV? Just a thought... I would have loved to have been able to find my old '69 Dart that stupidly sold years ago. It also was fully tubbed with 14.00 x 32 slicks all tucked underneath and with the stock rear wheel well opening...
