    A body overdrive transmission

IMO, a better alternative is a GM 200-4R. There are a bunch of threads about this swap. Check 'em out.

    Gear Ratio Recommendation

...and that's why I saved up to have a 200-4R OD trans built for my '69 Dart. It fits in an A-Body without surgery to the tunnel and will let me run 4.30 gears for around town fun and games. The 2.74/1.57/1.00/0.67 gear spread is good and will be like 2.88 rear gears on the freeway.

What choose a reverse valve body?

My '69 Swinger 340 ended up with a RMVB 727 on the street and I loved it. My current '69 Dart is going to have the same, except with a 200-4R with a lock-up converter.

    That's $0.35/gram. That same eBay post shows a 100g tube for $17 or $0.17/gram.

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

I decided on the 200-4R because it fits in an A-body tunnel without major sheet metal surgery.

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

Their website claims the Stage 2 build is good for 750hp/650 torque, Stage 3 build is good for 1000hp/850 torque. Extreme Automatics

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

I had a 200-4R built for my '69 Dart by Extreme Automatics in Amelia, OH. No cutting of my Dart's trans tunnel to install. Some trimming of the pinch-weld area under the car was all. I also used the US Car Tool 67-75 A-Body GM 200-4R crossmember kit. Extreme Automatics cuts off the stock...

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

I don't believe so. My Dart is still at the painters for final cut and polish - should be home in the garage sometime in August (the painter's wife is ready to "pop" with their first child so, understandably, there might be a delay). The engine is still on the stand and the trans is sitting on...

Torque Converter / Shift Kit and Shifter

1962-74 Chrylser Automatic Transmission Codes website shows the A-904-G was used behind 1968-71 slants (170, 198 and 225). I don't know /6 versions but I would think that internal components (valve bodies, shift kits, etc.) and torque converter fitment would be the same for both slant and V-8...

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

Hope to be driving my Dart sometime this year. The exterior was just painted two weeks ago. It's still at the paint shop waiting for the interior and underside to be painted and then final buff/cut/polish. I had my trans built a few years ago. You should probably check with Extreme Automatics...

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

A lot of them did. The one in the '83 Hurst Olds I used to own had problems. I'm not talking about grabbing one in a scrapyard and putting it behind your healthy small block. Like any other transmission, rebuild one with upgraded heathy internals and it will live behind big power.

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

My Dart is still in the paint shop but there are several threads on FABO regarding installation of a 200-4R in an A-body. Suggest you search them out.

    700R4 GM in a Swinger?

Update to Post #11 in this thread... Several years ago I bit the bullet and had Extreme Automatics (Extreme Automatics) in Ohio build me a 200-4R reverse-pattern, full manual shift lockup transmission to go behind the 360 small block in my current '69 Dart build. Extreme Automatics cut the...

value of rebuilt 727 small block trans

When I bought my current '69 Dart project about 12 years ago it came with what the previous owner claimed to be a newly rebuilt SB 727. I sold it 2 years ago for $150 and included the stock converter that came with the trans in the car. I never pulled the pan, and I never received any...

I've never bought a transmission before...

My trans was built about 4 years ago so I'm sure current cost is higher. Also, rather than using an adapter to mate the 200-4R trans to my SBM, Extreme Automatics machined the bellhousing area of the 200-4R off and bolted on a Reid SFI bellhousing (BH060 — Reid Racing).

Original Dart - Where abouts in California are you located? Here's something else for you to consider - if you're not a Mopar purist - depending on your budget. You mentioned your car will be a weekend cruiser with an occasional blast down the strip. Have you considered the benefit of a 4th...

    I'm considering an A 500 4 speed overdrive for a 72 Duster

I spent the extra $$ and had my trans builder (Extreme Automatics) cut off the factory bell and use a Reid Racing (BH060 — Reid Racing) bellhousing like shown in the pic. With the Reid housing there is no need for an adaptor - the trans will bolt right up to my 360. The same Reid bell would...

    I'm considering an A 500 4 speed overdrive for a 72 Duster

No floorpan/trans tunnel work involved with putting a 200-4R in my '69 Dart. The gear spread is 2.74/1.57/1.00/0.67. I'm going to be running 4.30 gears out back, but it'll be like having 2.88s when in overdrive.

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

I did some looking but wasn't able to find any documented sources from professional testing organizations. I did find several mentions from magazines but, again, nothing documented with test results from a transmission dyno.

200-4R Behind a 340 and Reid Bellhousing Build

I also had Lonnie build me a 200-4R, reverse pattern manual shift with a lockup converter a couple of years ago. I also used the US Car Tool crossmember. The car isn't yet on the road (been in two different paint shops since December 2016 but supposed to finally be done in paint the end of this...

    Kilduf shifter

I picked up my new Kilduff direct from Brian at Spring Fling in Van Nuys yesterday. He was there with his Challenger. It's going to look, and work, awesome in my '69 Dart! Not only is it very impressive to look at, but it's extremely well built. ...and my wife took one look at it when I got...

    Kilduf shifter

Good for you in finding a killer deal! They're pretty rare and the only bad thing is nobody services them or has parts anymore. I fell in love with them when I bought my '83 Hurst Olds off the showroom floor 35 years ago.

Yes, very nice kit manufactured and sold by US Car Tool. The kit is designed specifically to install the 200-4R in a Mopar A-Body. Take a look at the pics on the link: 67-75 A-Body GM2004R Cross-Member Kit
