    Replacing my Intake Manifold Question

@340inabbody, if/when you are able to get the block drain plugs out I suggest you replace them with petcocks like your radiator drain. This would be a one-time deal and make it so much easier for future engine block drain needs.

Tricks for keeping glass from fogging up racing on cold nights?

Living in SoCal I never have had problems with the windshield fogging while racing at night. However, one time years ago at OCIR I was wearing a full-face helmet with a shield during nighttime bracket eliminations. Two or three cars back from my next run I brought my hands up to the bottom of...

    motor home block

If you do find "318-3", then you should also find a forged crank inside. Back in the early '70s people were searching for the 318-3 engines because of the included forged crank.

    Stock 340 dyno tests?

Back in early 1970 my '69 340 Swinger, Torqueflite, open 3.23 gears, Goodyear Polyglass tires ran 14.28 @ 98+ mph at OCIR running G/Pure Stock. I loved beating big-blocks on the street. They could beat me in a full quarter mile but the combo of quick-revving and light weight would get them...

Offenhauser Dual Port 360 - run it or scrap it?

I also ran an Offy DP360 on my '69 Swinger 340 back in the early '70s with good success. Just like the previous post I also had a 727, G60-14s and 3.23 gears. I later changed to 4.89 gears and had the 727 built as a reverse-pattern manual shift. The cam I had demanded more carb so I ended up...

    340 head torque requirements

Back in the very early 1970s I had a '69 340 Swinger that needed a head gasket change. I will always remember that the stock head bolt torque requirement was 95 lbs. Why do I remember? Because the only way to get to one of the bolts on the rear of the driver-side head was with a 'wobbly-joint'...

    New Valve Cover Treatment

Here're the valve covers Leanna powder coated for me. The blue color matches my engine color. I didn't want the typical orange engine color since my Dart is painted Viper Red. The blue "pops" where the orange would have just looked washed out.

    Block Braces

They were on the '69 340 Swinger I had back in the early '70s. Got rid of them when I installed headers and never had an issue after they were gone.

    Usable power for the street?

Hey VR, post some pics of your Barracuda. Everyone on FABO loves pics. You mentioned your existing 273 and transmission, but didn't mention what rear end is currently in the car. That's going to be another prime consideration. A 7.25 differential may not hold up to your 273 Commando. A 8.25...

    SM Head Install... forgetting anything?

If you remove the block plugs to drain the block, then I suggest you replace the plugs with petcocks (like a radiator drain) rather than just putting the plugs back in. That will make it much easier to drain your block the next time you need to.

    340 Gets Terrible Gas Mileage

Off the topic, but my the 460 in my old '77 Ford F250 got 8-10 mpg. It didn't matter if the truck was empty, loaded, carrying a 9.5 cabover camper or pulling a 32' 5th wheel. I think it would have gotten 8-10 mpg if I'd pushed it off a cliff!

    360 question going into 71

VERY IMPORTANT! You'll burn up the Mopar tranny if you don't have the kickdown linkage adjusted correctly. The only way around it is to convert your automatic trans to a manual shift auto where you'll have to manually shift it to each gear.

    Let’s hear a 340 story

Back in the early/mid '70s I ended up running an 850 DP on my built 340 on the street. A 750DP couldn't keep it from "shootin' ducks", it just ran out of fuel close to 6-grand.
