Great work on your car. When considering tire size, you need to keep in mind that a 315 tire is not necessarily smaller in the ways you are hoping. When I was doing this to my car, I created the chart below. As you can see, on a 15" tire (BFG ET Street Radial) the 315 is almost 2 inches taller...

Thanks! I am not sure how much over stock, as the leaf springs I took out were 48 years old and sagging. You should be able to adjust the leaf springs by flipping the spring hangers, which should get you close. I hope this helps. OldMoparsRule!

This tire requires a lot "fine tuning" in an Early A. With the width of my axle, I could have gone with .25 to .5 more backspacing...it is really close. I probably have .75 of clearance on the frame side, and .50 on the fender side. A lot of people go with the 325x50x15 which is approx 2...

Rears are 315x60x15 Mickey Thompson Drag Radial, on Weld 15x10's with 5 inches of backspacing. Fronts are 15x4 Welds.

So, I worked on it for a while again this afternoon. It is once again on its 4 feet again. I think it has been almost a year on jackstands...WOW! I also purchased a third member with 3.91 gears that will be going in the axle after doing the finish welding. Any hints on setting the pinion...

I did the same thing, but I installed my green bearings and 3" studs myself. I think I paid $350. BTW, for future reference, let someone else install the bearings if you can...what a hassle cutting the old ones off. Thanks, OldMoparsRule!
