Mad Scientist Testing Carter AVS 4966S (short video)

Umm. Maybe not lied, but they did not use the industry standard of 20.4" of water column to flow the carbs. The secondaries are not unobstructed as you say. Maybe you are the one who doesn't know what the hell you are talking about. What's funny is instead of having a discussion you spout crap...

Mad Scientist Testing Carter AVS 4966S (short video)

That's true, but it does have the spray bar in the way. The edelbrock booster is the same size as the bore diameter too. There's no way that carter flowed 625cfm with the venturi sizes. It was simply carter's odd way of flowing 4bbl. Maybe someone could flow a factory avs and a edelbrock 500avs.

Mad Scientist Testing Carter AVS 4966S (short video)

Yep. Compare the specs to edelbrock. Same as a 500 cfm one. Carter obviously used a higher water column to rate their carbs than standard 1.5". Maybe they used 3".

Mad Scientist Testing Carter AVS 4966S (short video)

I'm actually working on turning a 4966s into a blow through carb as we speak. It has the same venturi and throttle bore size as a 500cfm edelbrock. There is no way it's more than that.

This 4966 has 3 holes in each spray bar, just in different positions and sizes.

Carter AVS secondary spray bar question

Very interesting.... I wonder how this will affect fuel distribution when used on a single plane. I guess I can pry out the spray bars and make new ones. Or not use this carb.

    Uremco’s Holley 1920. Just don’t do it.

Never said I like em so much. Just that they aren't a bad carb. Only reason I touched so many is the few on vehicles I have owned and all of the ones I've worked on for customers in the past. They put em on everything.

Carter AVS secondary spray bar question

Ok, a question for all the avs masters out there. I've got a pretty virgin looking 4966s avs and the secondary spray bars are different from one barrel to the other. Is this typical? One has one large hole on the end nearest the throttle blade and 2 larger holes at the top. Then the other spray...

    Uremco’s Holley 1920. Just don’t do it.

Cmon. The bbd has way more moving parts and even more that are intricate small parts.

    Uremco’s Holley 1920. Just don’t do it.

Can't get much more simple of a design and still have a full featured carb.

    Uremco’s Holley 1920. Just don’t do it.

I dunno. I've had great luck with all of the 1920's I've had to deal with, even the glass bowl ones. I've probably touched a couple hundred 1920's and the only thing I've ever had issues with is the throttle shaft bore wear. Less than an hour of time to fix tho.

    Unusual Air Cleaner

The base is the same, snorkel or not. Probably a original base with a slanty lid.
