    Fresh 904....just stopped shifting.

I will guess input shaft sheared. But a thorough investigation will be in order to find this problem. any noises with the engine running and in park or neutral?

    Inconsistent shifting: any ideas?

accumulator piston spring [Just a guess] or a slow releasing manual low band.[maybe servo]. How does it shift when just placed in drive [from a stop].

    Which rear end to use?

8 3/4 is expensive to build a strong version. 8 1/4 is way more common because of the variety of vehicles it was used in. [jeeps etc.] So it has support from the 4wd community. That makes it easier to build. Still it has the C clips but they dont seem to be troublesome like the gm C clip axles.

CAN THE PINION ANGLE CHANGE ?

pinion length is different [axle centerline to center of U-joint] Dana has a longer pinion. About an inch. could be compensated for with the right parts. [special yoke etc.]

Lokar Kickdown Adjustment? KICKDOWN LEVER STUCK

yeah that first pic. the little thing on the cable {a stop} can be moved forward provided that the cable has not been trimmed too short. Also, the adjustment up on the carb/cable bracket can be adjusted [again, if there is enough slack in the whole thing]. whats happening is that the cable is...

Lokar Kickdown Adjustment? KICKDOWN LEVER STUCK

I would move the cable stop forward on the cable itself or if that is not possible adjust at the carb bracket for more slack. youll want the throttle to "bottom out" before the trans lever does. I have had to adjust this for a friend of mine who had this setup. IIRC. good luck.

    What can the 7.25 handle?

do not rely on the 7 1/4. they were marginall ok with highway gears install and a slant. that is it. A better option would be the 8.8 or actually an 8 inch ford out of a 60's mustang. perfect width on the 8 inch rear if you can find one. the 60's mopar B body could work also but is slightly wider.

    Swapping intervals on 904s

yes, however, somethings might need to be strengthened and /or adjusted to fit the characteristics of the V8. Im thinking clutch packs and the governor however it would work in theory. the v8 casr should be from 68 thru 79.

    904 issues

I'll guess the Sprag is history. Take it apart, it's not that complicated of a transmission to rebuild. Might go with the bolt in sprag IF the spag is indeed the culprit.

Ticking Noise Coming From Transmission Driving Me Crazy

are you sure it is not the heat riser valve [in the exhaust manifold] that would explain the "after it warms up" symptom. I had a 67 belvedere that had a noisy heat riser valve. [ i ended up cutting it out and the noise was gone. I was living in FL so it was not needed anyway]

    Drive shaft measurement

It DOES matter what the wheelbase is. With the same drivetrain, the Dodge will have a longer driveshaft compared to the Plymouth. Yes the engine/trans is in the same position in relationship to the firewall BUT, from there back, the floorpan is longer which in turn moves the rear end farther...

    B- body 8 1/4

1969 first year for the 8 1/4. 70 B-body is only a couple of inches, more or less, wider than the A-body rear so it is a good fit for the A body.

"A" Body 67 Barracuda rear end problem

I don't know what would be made of brass in a rear-end, the only thing I cen think of would be a pinion shaft or the lock pin for it but I don't think they are made of brass. does everything look intact? check to see if the pinion shaft for the spider gears is still there along with the lock...

Safely cruising speed with a 318/727 combo

short stroke engines don't mind rpm's. especially the 318 which had a 3.31 stroke and a 3.91 bore which makes moderate rpm easy on the bores because of the slower piston speeds and low thrust on the sidewalls. also remember the rod/stroke ratio of 1.84 (just unreal when compared to other...

    8 3/4" from a 1/2 Ton P/U or Van For "A" Body

Dodge pickup had a 5 on 5 1/2 boltpattern from 84 on. before they were 5 on 4 1/2 UNLESS you had a 4 wheel drive. My 1980 1/2 ton power wagon has a 9 1/4 dana 44 front and 5 on 5 1/2 bp. My 79 1 ton had a Dana 60 rear (it was 2 wheel drive.) It is possible to run the 5 on 5 1/2 truck pattern on...

Tips on making your own transmission lines

there is such a thing as a bubble flare. Its jus a bubble on the end of the line like on old carb lines where rubber fuel line is clamped on. It is hard to find a flare tool that will make a true bubble flare. You can kind of do it with the double flare tool if you are careful. (the idea is to...

    904 Torqueflite Rebuild HELP?!?!?!?!

hey, I answered the other post and now answering this one, haha. The 904 torque-flite is one of the easiest transmissions to rebuild. If you can find an "ATSG" transmission guide, that is what I would suggest. You can order them from a lot of places on the net. They cover specific transmissions...

Wich axel is the best for me?

I would do the ford 8.8 swap mostly because of your location. It would be much easier to find a ford rear. Do a search on this site for the swap info. easy to do! The rears cam in the Ford Explorer's. I would guess they would have them in Europe.

    8 1/4 rear with 2.25 gears.

I just read on "dippy.org" that a 2.26 gear was actually made. Late M body. Can you imagine that. Bonneville here we come!

    8 1/4 rear with 2.25 gears.

Is it a 2.25 or a 2.45?? IIRC, all the 2.45 and higher (numerically) all used the same carrier. Not so sure if it is a 2.25 though.

Will this 904 trans work in 65' Barracuda?

... Imperial Services....(if they are still in business)...might have the info. IIRC there was a pushbutton shift mech that worked with the later trans. IDK though, im old and am starting to get the oldtimers....

71 challengers are mostly 8 3/4 axle. Except for the Hemi and MAYBE the 440 sixpack which might have a Dana 60. So yes they are rare, really rare.

    Need Help w/8.75 Gear Swap

just to add; only use the Timkin bearings (brand). And I would buy 2 sets for the pinion. One to use as the set up bearings (honed out as previously mentioned) and the other for the actual assembly. WHY: because the tolerance of the timkins are such that they are virtually identical from a...

273 to 360 swap. same converter?

yes he got lucky. all torq convertors that I can thin of have a registor that fits very snug. If you want to use that trans, the B&m flexplate and the spacer ring would work. You may want to say a prayer to the trans before you drive it each time though as the extra torque of the 360 may put...
