    Thermoquad idling issues

mopar says to remove vac spring from vac bar, adjust metering screw till the bar is close to top of carb well. now the bar will move with throttle blade, vac cannot affect anymore. btw set the bar at wide open throttle . my TQ has never had vac spring in it. just food for thought

    Why run dual quads?

BTW, tuning them is simple, same as four barrel.

    Why run dual quads?

that question has been asked many times, on a factory dual four versus singe four is worth .four tenths faster. chev had dual fours on 56 , 265 and the 283, mopar had them on 318 poly, 354 hemi, 392 hemi, the 62 413 and 383 , ford had them on 427 FE. i know this, when you punch open dual fours...

afb, avs, t q, metering rods

hi, trying to read numbers on metering rods is a pain, i found , use a magnifying plug reader light, works wonderful can set on rod and read numbers lots easier. just food for thought. also, can read jet sizes also.

muriatic acid, OK for carb soaking?

muratic acid and alum will give off a toxic cloud, do not use it on alum parts. i poured some in a alum pan, one time, huge mistake

    Edelbrock setup for dual quad

mine have always been progressive , more drivable and fuel milage is way better. factory dual quads were progressive .

    Edelbrock setup for dual quad

on a dual carb, front carb, the curb idle screw has to turned all way out so, carb will not idle,, also, screw idle mixture screws all way in, the rear carb is only one for driving, the front carb is for wide open throttle, after that then turn rear idle screws out about a half turn or so, also...

Dyno results - Tquad vs Holley vs Qjet - tuning issue, too rich

I went back to mopar race manual, T.Q. jetting setup is, drop metering rods all way down into pri jet disconnect from the bar ,or make club foot rods from AFB rod, sec blade angles are 86 to 88 deg angle. reason is pri go rich when hooked up at wide open throttle. the club foot rods are hooked...

Dyno results - Tquad vs Holley vs Qjet - tuning issue, too rich

mopar race tips, says, sec throttle blades have to be at 85 to 88 deg , not 90, it affects jetting to sec side, I use a T.Q on 340, have has no issues , my fuel curve is flat , no spikes, up or down. . air door at .725 to . 900 range.

how much timing does engine have?? and what RPM? just curious.

Can Thermoquad throttle plates be exhanged from different years?

the 6139 and the 6319 are the same. period!!!!!! only difference is the port you want to use. might check gaskets also. also, CFM is 750 on those two carbs.

Intake manifold flow test. Interesting read!

tried that thought, had hell of time getting engine set on flow bench. couldn't hook up the bench to intake. gave up on it!! constant flow gives you a measurement of flow. it's accurate. superflow, has a article about that.

    Thermoquad idle issue

you have thin gaskets on both sides of thick 1/4 gasket? the 1/4 " gasket leaked on mine, I use one thin gasket only.

Intake manifold flow test. Interesting read!

the flow bench sucks air on intake, blows air on exh. they have plugs in intake ports. to keep air from sucking through. BTW, I flow test on my superflow 600.

Intake manifold flow test. Interesting read!

when we tested intakes, mounted them port to bench. sucked air through the carb entrance, like it does on engine. they mounted theirs upside down, sucked air through port. backwards of natural flow. one time tested intake port, with port face down on bench . blew air through port. was testing...

    72 Thermoquad 6138s

the 6138 is a great carb. in stock elim, those 340's can run 10.80 @ 120 mph with this carb!!. as for warping, the bowl, if you have EGR system, it blows hot exhaust under carb , it goes right into intake. this will cause warpage. we run thin gasket, on a cast iron manifold, never had...

Factory manifolds.....just how good were they?

hi, mopar did their homework back then, concerning intake manifolds. in early days of super stock, there wasn't a aluminum manifold that worked with a340, ed hamburger , modified a stock cast intake for his super stock 340. it out performed any aluminum intake at the time. then offy came out...

Factory manifolds.....just how good were they?

hi, thank you, very true. they are factored heavily. a case in point, the 240/340 factored at 285 /299 hp. the 275 /327 factored at 274. they run same class!!!

Factory manifolds.....just how good were they?

hi, the 340 intakes are very good manifolds. period. in stock , you have to use them. those cars are fast, damn fast!!!! they do NOT go out the back door at 4500 RPM!!! most are at 7000 RPM and up!!! 71 340 dusters can run 10.70's 72 340 dusters can run 10.90's on kill!!!!! MPH is in the 120...

    Benefits of Fuel Cell?

hi, with a fuel cell ,, no fuel gauge level, have to install a vent tube, build a firewall behind rear seat and seal it , that includes package tray. no speakers allowed. without a fuel gauge, you will have to measure level with a stick. which means, you will have to open trunk to measure. I run...

    Thermoquad race tune

hi, I run 6319 T.Q. on a 340 stock eliminator motor. only thing done was , little drilling of fuel passages, bigger needles, milled out, the air door is set with a gauge, for a/f. I hooked up AEM sensor, to collector, it read, 12.1 to 12.3 going down the track, I mounted it where i could see...

hi what was the test pressure??? higher test pressure will give you higher flow numbers. just food for thought

how neccesary is a return line for a electric fuel pump?

hi, don't put a return line in, you will have pressure variations and starve motor. just plumb it normal. it doesn't heat up the fuel .

Thermoquad worth it - or no?

hi, it's too bad you guys hate or dislike T.Q. carbs, in stock eliminator and super stock, we have to run the stock carb.those engines run very fast!!! it's like anything else, you learn how to make it work!! the holley is not the answer. the same thing is said about the quadrajet carb also. I...

    Stock 340 intakes

I noticethe comment concerning a 340 stock cast iron intake as being limited by RPM and flow!! in the world of stock eliminator, the cast iron intake will and does make power. most 340 stockers are pulling 7000 +RPM in the traps. the motors doen't seem to be laying over either. so if it's that...

    stock 4bbl intakes

hi, the fact remains, if the stock manifold didn't flow good, the MPH would be slow!!!!! from seeing your car run, that 340 stocker will out run your 14to 1 tunnel ram, roller cam car!! back in the early days of S/S racing, the AVS manifold was way faster over after market manifolds of the...

    stock 4bbl intakes

hi, that manifold will work very well. in the world of stock eliminator, the stock intake has to be used. Mark dickersons, 1970 340 duster runs 10.77 @ 122 mph. this is with the stock AVS carb and stock intake .
