    340 Dart disappointing time slip

the 340 came with a 10 1/2 clutch. it's a B&B style, best way to keep pedal off floor is to put a stop between pedal and floor the stock clutch will hold the load. we ran same clutch years ago, had no problems with it. a tach would help you a lot. good luck.

    Calvert set up pictures

I went from s/s springs to a calvert setup. I found a tenth faster in 60 '. car was more consistent on launch. I noticed one thing with s/s springs and snubber, the area above the rear wheel wells was starting to buckle out!!!! I could feel it and see it!!! yes, I have subframes tied. also...

    a body rear end ? 8 3/4 vs dana 60

hi, a dana 60 from a 1967 to 1972 ford 1/2 ton pickup is the lightest dana. there is only 32 # difference in weight. it has passenger car ends on it. simple to swap ends to mopar, add 8 3/4 axles and brakes. change front yoke to dana 1350, they are way cheaper vs truck dana's .

hi, on the T.Q. all we do is lower or raise metering bar for primary jetting, and open or close air door for sec jetting. why is that hard?? very easy to tune.air door opening will richen or lean sec, moving metering bar will richen or lean pri mixture.

    1973 duster 340 valve intake

hi, 340 makes 410 H.P. with 1.88 int valves, mopar stainless. the 1.88 has more port velocity , therefore, puts more air in cylinders = more power. for the street, the 1.88 is more than enough!! on the qualifing sheet at gainesville, 340 ran 10.98, was a 72 or 73 duster stocker.

    Surface rust on cylinder heads

hi do not sand blast!! the sand will stay in casting pores and get into motor. instead, take them to a machine shop, have them steelbrated. it's a tumbling machine, it removes rust, makes them look like new, the steel shot doesn't stay in casting. some will stay in water jackets, all you need...

    Open exhaust Hp gain?

hi, not trying to pour water on your fire, I assume the chassis is certified to run 9 sec ? you have fire jacket, pants, neck collar, shoes, and a FAA physical? I've seen guys touch that magical 9 sec, and not allowed to run till all those requirements have been met. and to get to exhaust, a...

    Please translate this flow sheet!?!

hi what kind of model flow bench?? what was the test pressure? test pressure makes all the difference in the world showing flow numbers. high test pressure will show very high results. this is what most people want to see!! regardless if it's correct!! lower test pressure is more real world...

    Head Porting question

hi, do most the work in the bowls, blend the sharp edges, taper top of guides some.do not gasket match! port match is way better. reason is, if you open up the port at flange, it creates a big bulge in the air flow path. the air has to fill it before it can move on, this causes slowing of the...

    Better heads

it's not a purist or political correct, its what it required on stockers and super stockers. as for cost, they can be made to work for less than some of those holleys. they flow from 750 to 850 cfm.

    Better heads

hi, I see you don't think much of T.Q. carbs. how is it the stocker and super stockers go so fast with them? being as how they have to run them. lots people don't like Qjets, but they can be made to work very well. just curious.

    Better heads

    72 340 Rebuild

hi, the 73 manifold has EGR fittings in floor of manifold, 72 doesn't. the 71 & 72 manifolds are same casting number. carbs have different part number, otherwise the same. btw, this combo on a stocker will run very low 11 to high 10's. just looked up E/SA record, 360 duster, 10.49@ 123.94...

    LD4B intake on a 1969 340CID

hi, awhile back, I flow tested the stock 340 intake and a LD4B just for grins. test pressure was at 25", flow tested through one port, blocked others. flow numbers were, 197 CFM for the stock cast 340 Intake, LD4B 264 CFM. hmm ,

    little 'ol 273

hi, hardened seats are not required. installing sst valves is the answer. if the motor is used in a truck or hauling heavy loads, then yes. another question, how can a 273 cost more?? they use same bearings, gaskets, cam/lifters, timing set, crank, rods, cast pistons cost bout the same!! only...

    little 'ol 273

hi, the stock 920 head will out flow the 302. also, 920 has a closed chamber. the 273 head responds well to sst nail head valves. also, 920 head has more port velocity, which is needed to fill cylinders faster. you can do some mild bowl blending ,remove all sharp edges, this helps flow...
