    400 to 451 stroker questions

I'm putting myself in the same boat, wanting to build a low deck 426-ish I have a good untouched 64 383 I plan to stroke with rods and crank from a 72 440, and a pair of 452 heads.... initial plan was to just buy pistons to fit whatever over bore I need and to fit the 440 rods. As well as turn...

    383 vs 360 in an A 68 Cuda

Go for the wow factor of a big block in an A body. I am going to do a 383 in my 68 B'cuda ragtop (original 318 car) in a few years when I build the car. I have choices. I have a complete 69 hp 383 out of a go-fast optioned Fury, and I have a complete 63 or 64 383 out of a Newport. Also have...

Removing spark plugs from a body

Nope. That was in the late '80s. That car is beyond long gone. Guy I sold it to back then disappeared. All I have is a pic of the car hanging on the garage wall..

383 sits crooked in engine bay

Looks like the previous owner purposely made the left side sit lower. Maybe for valve cover clearance under the power brake booster, perhaps?

Drivers Side Rear Spark Plug 440

On the mount, is that one long bolt thru the front mount tab on the block, the mount itself and the rear mount tab? Looks like the engine can slide front to rear on that long bolt. If it comes all the way forward, or all the way back, does the plug clear the shaft? Odd looking set up if ya...

    Edelbrock TM7

If you are consistent in the 10.40s and you're happy with it, leave it alone. Old school works if you tune it right, and it sounds like you have it nailed down!

    Craigslist 440. Whats it worth?

Looking at the pics in the ad, can't be a points distributor as the seller mentions (unless he swapped it out). There is an electronic ignition box on the firewall. That and it's a 74. $600 for the motor and transfer seems fair, but I'd go flash him 4 bills as well. Few years ago, I sold a...

    Stroke a 383 or just build a mild 440?

Well all of the above pretty much sums up what I was originally planning to do.... stroke the 383, and I too will be able to say it's just a little 383 ......... Appreciate the thoughts, gents.

    Stroke a 383 or just build a mild 440?

I know that ultimately it's my car and I'll do what I want to it, BUT....... for grins and giggles looking about 3 years down the road - at least I hope to be ready to build the motor by then...... I'm entertaining thoughts and ideas in my choice of big block, simply because I just picked up a...

    440 Oil Weight

Never liked Quaker State oils. I remember dad getting a lot of engine work at the shop back in the late 70s and 80s when quaker state had some major quality issues. My son's high mileage Ram is all the previous owner used and was proud to tell us at 150k miles he only burns 1.5 quarts between...

    Opinions... 2 4's or 6 pack?

Yep. six pack on my Fury for the last 13 years. I forgot the middle part of my last response. I'm running on 5 hrs sleep total, between the last 2 nights. Been a whacky weekend here.

    Opinions... 2 4's or 6 pack?

Nope. Never done a 2-4 before. But never did a six pack until I'd either. lol. The rest of the engine will be a 383 stroked out to 430-ish, depending on the over bore and piston choice. I've got the crank and rods from a 74 440 that I'm going to stuff in the 383 block. Cam is undecided...

    Opinions... 2 4's or 6 pack?

Ah, the look. From the outside looking in, the car as a whole will appear sleeper-ish. Either rallye wheels or cop wheels/poverty caps. Interior will be 1968 correct. other than multiple carbs of one or the other, nothing shiny on the motor. The 6 pack on my Fury looks like a factory install...

    Opinions... 2 4's or 6 pack?

66340 - I'd entertain the cross rams, except they won't fit between the inner fenders on an A body. I don't want to get into cutting up the inners. I could do a big block swap in the Fury.......but that would back me up a couple of years on the B'cuda. Appreciate the thought, tho! RRR -...

    Opinions... 2 4's or 6 pack?

I have that on the Fury. It has over-played out well. As for the cross-ram.... I'd love one of those set ups, but talk about $$$$$$$................ If I do the inline 4's, I'd have to adapt a 6 pack or air grabber type of air cleaner base/lid, maybe. or just 2 small rounds.

    Opinions... 2 4's or 6 pack?

As we do what we do, I sometimes start thinking way ahead of myself . .... so as I start cleaning up remnants of other projects around the house in prep of starting on the 68 ragtop, I've been debating with myself. I already have the 440 crank, rods and balancer that I'm going to stroke a...

Removing spark plugs from a body

A hole saw will do it.... then get a rubber plug for the hole.... On my 71 cuda with the 440 in it, had to use an open end wrench on numbers 4 and i think 2..... Maybe un olt the motor mount and jack the engine up some?

Big Block Conversion, do it again?

Apples and oranges maybe, but I did it to my 71 B'cuda back in the 80's... Can't wait to get my 68 B'cuda ragtop project going - she'll be a mild 383 when she hits the street. Over all, I think a big block is easier to work on.

    What is a 67 TNT 440 worth?

2 years ago, I sold a 440 from a 71 imperial that had not run in 15 years. It was complete from the air cleaner to the drain plug and from the fan blades to the flex plate - all brackets/pulleys/accessories included. I got $1000 for it. Like moper said - it all depends on what someone is...
