I believe the car did not originally come with floor mats. To be on the safe side, I would carefully pull up that rubber mat and check your floors for rust. Those rubber floors didn't breathe real well....

I had the same issue on my '75 Scamp. I purchased a nice used handle with a good spring for $15 off ebay.

Which product(s) do you use to clean the interior? Dash, seats, vinyl trim? I'm not real crazy about anything that leaves the shiney film, especially on the seats.
