Engine lags and stalls when initially pressing gas-Solution Found?!

I am reviving this thread , hope that is ok....? My son had his accelerator pump on his 2 BBL BBD carb "fold over" on itself about a year ago.....so he replaced it with one from a kit.....its red with a green cup..... Well, it has once again "folded" on itself so he bought a new kit and...

    Fuel filter location

How could I test to see if there is in fact vaporization going on (ie vapor lock)? when the problem occurs, there is still gas at the carb because I can work the throttle and gas shoots out just fine...when I remove the fuel feed hose from the carb, gas comes out......I would think that if here...

    Fuel filter location

RE: movingb stuff away from motor...Pretty much right now, that is the case.....the fuel line is running up thru the stock location.....any other routing would put stuff closer to heat sources..... The hose going from the regulator to the carb feels hot at some point, but have pulled the line...

    Fuel filter location

Tested the coil...had 13,600 ohms or so from terminal to the center....going to let it cool down completely and see if that changes..... Had run different wires and had three of them come apart (seem to have melted).....If the wires were bad, would they act fine when cold and then act poorly...

    Fuel filter location

The temp gauge reads about 160-180....now it could be a little higher due to the way the sensor is in a fitting that rises a bit out of the manifold....but the stock temp gauge also reads at the low end of the scale/range. The carb body is hot when I touch it..I already have the special heat...

    Fuel filter location

I had installed a fuel pressure gauge when I started having issues to see what the pressure is. The edlebrock tech I spoke to said it needs to be no higher than 6-6.5 psi. I was running 7 and 8 psi so I got the regulator. I was thinking maybe the filter location was an issue but I am not so...

    Fuel filter location

I currently have the fuel filter (a fram see thru type) installed right before my mechanical fuel pump (318 engine)....... I have been having issues with the engine dying and have replaced the fuel pump as part of the attempt to get things right. wondering if the fuel filter should be after...

    Need carb and/or timing help

I tried this and was able to stall the car out.....although I dont recall if the idle improved at all before stalling, so will have to try again. I changed out the 750 eddy performer carb for a 600 and still no real change......so that would seem to rule the carb out.... Although I still have...

YEAH! Thats it! Different sticker on it...but same deal! Its only a couple days old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, so what regulator is a good one, that isnt too large? WIll be at Carlisle tomorrow...maybe I can find one there?

    Need carb and/or timing help

Well, not sure if there is a change or not to be honest...... Had some other distractions today (fuel regulator quit, starving me for gas)......but pretty sure I still have the same issues....alsthough, it seems like it wants to idle lower more often.... Noticed I am not shifting into 3rd when...

    Gas pressure goes bye bye.

Well, my issue seems to be simpler than yours..... I removed the regulator and hooked everything back up...pressure is back at 7 psi. So bad regulator. Far as I can tell. What makes a regulator fail!?!?! On top of that I figured my gas mileage to be a whopping 6.4 mpg. Of course, thats a...

    Gas pressure goes bye bye.

So after drilling my primary plates last night I was read to test her out. Well, I started her up in teh garage and she ran.....in the driveway she ran. I noticed that my fuel pressure gauge was reading like 1 psi. Ok, now its a $18.00 deal from Pep Boys and first thing I thought was...

I'd love it to be a vacuum leak...but I have sprayed several times and nothing..... I do plan on doing it again today, though, as the carb was off last night for the drilling.

    Need carb and/or timing help

Yeah, I know timing needs to be spot on first......but I am not sure itst he reman distributor.....the car is acting about the same , timing wise and performance wise , as when I had the original distributor in there.....so not sure that is it. Although I hear yat hat the stock mech. advance...

    Need carb and/or timing help

Alright.....I figured I have tried everything else, so would try this. I took the carb off the car, took the top off, drained it....my transfer slots are like 4 x .040 or maybe more.........LOL....so they are very much exposed. So I decided to drill it. .......... removed , drilled and...

    Need carb and/or timing help

Hey green....I installed a fuel pressure gauge inline.....I am showing 6.5-7 psi at idle, and it gets a little erratic when the idle drops real low..... edelebrock says the pressure needs to be no more than 6 I think, 5.5 ideally. So either the gauge is wrong or my pressure is too...

    Vacuum Level Question

Thanks Mark..... So I must have a cam in this engine then.......or, a huge vac leak, but I cant find any....and one that big should be obvious....I would think. I did find out that I am missing my secondary throttle linkage on the carb (its a Eddy 1407)......so up to now, I have only been...

    Need carb and/or timing help

Thanks guys. Well, I decided earlier to go ahead and pull the carb top off and check the bowls etc. The primary jets were hard to read but I think they were the correct ones....numbers were hard to read.... the carb is using the out-of-the-box jetting (.113) and rod (071x047). I swapped out...

    Need carb and/or timing help

Have been fighting with my fish (318) for a while now..... My problem is an erratic idle.....from what I was told the engine was rebuilt 10-15k ago to stock specs, except for a double roller timing chain, internally. It has an edelbrock performer intake manifold and an edelbrock performer 750...

    fuel line question

Think I may have found the answer to my question s far as the line.... Edelbrock actually offers a kit to convert a 5/16" or 3/8" steel line to 3/8" hose for its carbs.... Now that I know I can got that route, at least I know what I am looking for......

Well, I was going to try and run metal line up to a certain point and then hooking up the carb with hose the rest of the way.... I took a trip to the NAPA store and yes, mission control, we have a problem. LOL There is no way to adapt a 5/16" line with 1/2-20 fitting on one end to a 3/8...

    fuel line question

Anyone know off-hand the fitting size for the fuel line connection at the discharge side of the fuel pump on a 76 318? I believe that in stock form there is a steel fuel line that runs from the pump up to the carb.... I have an edelbrock 4v carb and it has a hose inlet, so i am looking to...
