looking for a good and reliable engine rebuilder in Florida

This guy bought some small block parts from me last year and we chatted for a while. Knows his stuff and does mostly Mopar. He’s in Port Saint Lucie.

    Reground Cam

#1357B This was a custom grind Ken did based on my previous NA cam #1357. Same specs, just more lobe separation. I was really happy with that NA cam so he said, “let’s grind your turbo cam based on that grind”. Great guy to work with. And I paid $182.00 shipped for this cam. Plus whatever it...

    Reground Cam

I’ve had two magnum regrinds done by Ken at Oregon. Around $200 and change all in as I recall but it’s been about 3 years. Excellent service. You can’t go wrong with Oregon.

    Ignition for 360 magnum

When my 65 5.9 was N/A I ran one of those ready-to-run distributors with an Ecore coil and had no problems with it. Inexpensive and simple to wire.

    Engine Quest Replacement?

Mine are the EQ heads which is what I thought was advertised in your link. They do make good power. Like I mentioned in your other thread, I did a 7.80 in the 1/8 NA with them. Not too shabby.

    Engine Quest Replacement?

What year is your Magnum? Earlier models have provisions for LA heads which gives you more options. My last build was a ‘94 and I was surprised to find that it had LA oiling passages in the block.

    Engine Quest Replacement?

Those are the exact same ones I bought from Clearwater but with the LA intake bolt pattern. I bolted them on out of the box. No issues so far.

    Stock bottom end 360 magnum

Not completely “budget” but I did a 7.80 in the 1/8 with a rebuilt bottom end; hone, polish, new rings, bearings, oil pump and off the shelf 2.02 Eq heads, Oregon cam regrind, RPM Air Gap, 780 Holley. 727 with 3500 stall, 4.30 gears in a 3300 lb 65 Valiant. I later added a turbo to the same...

    Choosing a Cam for a 5.9 Swap

Another vote for Oregon Cams. I had a very similar combo to yours. I went with their grind #1357 and loved it. He's doing another for me now for a single turbo 5.9 I'm building.

Magnum guys might enjoy this: 10 second 5.9L Grand Cherokees

I saw this also. One has a completely stock bottom-end according to the owner and putting down like 600hp on Nitrous! How is that possible!? I thought our Magnums were as brittle as a potato chip at any power level above 500hp? :)

    Stock Magnum rods/pistons durability ?

I love that Sledge hammer build. Look at the TQ/HP at 5500 RPMs. That's a lot of fun and probably plenty of mileage on the motor if you don't push it much beyond that RPM range.

    Stock Magnum rods/pistons durability ?

My first 5.9 build was a junkyard 2001 motor with abouta100k miles on it. i just had it cleaned, crank polished, honed and new cam bearings installed. I rebuilt it with the same pistons and rods, didn't touch the rod bolts (I know, everybody says that's a no-no) or anything. New rings and...

    Forged pistons options

Thanks gents. I forgot to ask. Is balancing of the pistons or rotating assembly required if switching to non stock pistons? Or doesn't matter since the Magnums are externally balanced? I'll keep shopping around for forged slugs. They're all pretty pricey from what I've seen; Icon, Mahle, Wiseco...

    Forged pistons options

I have a stock bottom end 5.9 magnum, EQ heads running a single 69mm turbo on lite boost (~7psi) with E85. Once I get my tune squared away I'd like to turn up the boost but know the stock pistons have their limitations. I'd like to build a new short block with stock crank and rods but with an...

What's a good cam to hit low 12's

I ran a best of 7.65 in the 1/8th with a bone stock 5.9, EQ heads, Air Gap, 770 Holley Street Avenger, 4.30 gears, 9.5" PTC and a regrind cam from Oregon camshaft.

What cam do you have in your magnum?

I have an Oregon #1357 in mine and love it! NA with a 770 (a 670 would probably be better), 727, 3500 stall and 4.30 gears, stock bottom end and off the shelf EQ 2.02 heads my car ran a best of a 7.60 in the 1/8th. That's low 12s, high 11s or something in the 1/4. I'm running the same combo now...

EQ Heads and stock rocker arms?

I have a stock bottom end 5.9 with EQ heads, 2.02 intakes and heavier springs. I run the factory stamped rockers and inexpensive pushrods that are slightly longer than stock. 5.9 operating temperature

Thanks for all the feedback guys. As N/A I always thought mine ran hot, creeping past 200 with a 180 stat. I'm turbo now running E85 and it's still climbing up to 210+ in traffic. Obviously all the turbo components under the hood add heat. I just bought a high volume water pump and 160 stat. I...

My FIRST MOPAR. Magnum Swap/Nitrous is happening.

I didn't do a build thread on the magnum but there is some info in my user profile. I do have a turbo build thread in the Forced Induction category, but don't take that route if you're on a budget. But I basically followed the LXGUY build. Same guy with the magnumswap website. Used the same head...

My FIRST MOPAR. Magnum Swap/Nitrous is happening.

Also, it would be fun to just throw that thing together and hit it with nitrous. I did a real low budget rebuild on mine with new rings, bearings, gaskets, regrind cam, EQ heads, etc. but the motor probably would have been fine as it was...and a moderate shot of nitrous. As it were, I ended up...

    Kevko oil pan?

I think I went with the LA tube/dipstick on my Kevko. Also, it won't be accurate when you check oil level. It barely marks the bottom of the stick when the Kevko is at capacity ~5 quarts.
