as a mechanic in the early 70's I replaced 100's of ford 330/361/391/389 engines because of hollow exhaust valve stems in this ford engine line /all had hollow sodium filled stems, the cause of failure was intake gasket getting sucked in /so if you run them lean failure is quick and deadly

use the fitting for the heater hoses and get a elect pump to move the water they have them on school buses to pump coolant to the rear heater cores

they make one you weld to the shaft for circle track cars

I used the 8 1/4 with a 4.30/ 4.56 gears they are bullet prof on the dirt track, with the supper stock spring installed backwards the extra weight on the left side will level the car out, had to weld a flat plate on the spring perch and drill the spring centerbolt hole if you use the f body rear.

If the others are running a 350 ,you need a 360 if you want to compete ,I had 1 318 as a back up motor and it wasn't close /and I tried many heads /cam changes trying to compete with it . until the 360 got reinstalled . good luck

I race one for 5 years on a 3/8 mile dirt track with heavy banking ,they are not completive ,the engine is the only advantage no one will pass you in the straightaway BUT they are 400lb heavier when properly set up, and have a very limited t-bar selection , on a sloppy wet or very dry track...

I wouldn't change the intake until you put the 4.10 gear in ,it might be just right after the gear swap. just my 2cents.

on the stock car engines we ran into the opposite ,cylinders overheating because of poor cooling #4/6 and 3/5 even with the mods done .the coolant pushes around the center cylinders to quickly, so we cut .015 off the tops of the 4 pistons, to get them running at the same temp/fuel .on a street...
