I could not get them to work with my 340 in my 64 dart, but I have power steering and a 4 speed. @waggin actually did the work for me and may have more insight. Eventually went to Doug's headers, and even they hit everything and was difficult to get to work.

I am Happy with my dynomax vt with a cross pipe on my 340.

I have a 340 with 284/484 cam X heads, dougs 450 headers, 2.5 inch pipes with a cross pipe like your first picture followed by Dynomax VT mufflers, and it sounds great, load when I get on it and nice when I don't and no drone.

Look at the first picture, the line is higher than it looks like in the last picture, and not real near the header

Those are D450 for early A's 64 to 66.

Try 340 hipo manifolds, then dakota's, then shorties then dougs. Get a Mini starter. I ended up with Dougs in my 64, along with 2.5 pipes a cross pipe and a pair of dynomax VT drone free

the way it usually goes for me is 1) break bolt or stud off in head "insert bad word here" 2) Drill a hole in stub/bolt 3) Insert and break off easy out in head " insert more bad words here" 4) Try to drill out the easy out, but it is harder than the drill bit, "insert a few more choice words...

Have you tried just loosening the motor mounts and moving the engine ?

Got mine with the discount In February D450 coated for $746 including taxes. You can ask waggins how hard they were to install :)

I see them using a blue sealing compound on wheeler dealers all the time. Not sure what it is.

And if you do break one off, don't try to get it out with an easy-out. just drill and tap it. every time I have tried to use those easy-outs they end up breaking off in the head and then they are impossible to drill out.

I was thinking about adding them before the mufflers.

There is way too much taper in an extractor for that to work. Plus with my luck I would be in the water jacket for sure :)

Yea that, I think they are more likely to retain there strength threw repeated heating and cooling. But it is just my opinion and I am not sure what strength bolts were used originally.

remember to use hardened bolts and anti seize grease when reinstalling them

Do not I repeat do not try to use a bolt extractor. Everytime I have tried to use one of those they beak off in the head. Once this has happened good luck trying to drill it out. The extractors are much harder than the original bolt and head and harder than most drill bits. you are better off...

Any reason why you cant just buy hardened studs from the local hardware store ?

When they snap off in the head, and they probably will, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, try to use an easy out to get them out. It will just break off in you head and then you are really screwed. Drill it out and retap the hole. or helicoil it. you will not be able to drill out the easy out.

You don't have a convertible, it is a cruiser not a bruiser
