    Which alternator 60A or 46A?

My '71 Dart GT (318, auto, A/C) is in need of an alternator. NAPA shows a 60 AMP or a 46 AMP available. What was the factory alternator rated at? The car has no extra electrical additions other than AutoMeter electric gauges (water temp, oil pressure & voltage) and a tachometer. Thoughts?

    Dead or Dying Battery, or?

Saturday I was out driving my car ('71 Dart GT 318) around town at speeds up to 50 mph. As the vehicle speed increased I noticed the voltage would also increase to just over 16V (which I do not recall seeing it ever go that high before). When I would come to a stop, with the transmission in...

    11.5V = Dead Cell?

My buddy has had an electrical problem with his '63 Dodge 440 (383 engine) for quite some time. He says the car "blows" voltage regulators when he turns the headlights ON. He has tried multiple mechanical & electronic voltage regulators (with a known good ground). The alternator has been...

What spark plugs, wires and cap for a stock '71 318?

As the title says, what would you use for a virtually stock 119,000 miles '71 318? Does have an LD4B Edelbrock intake with a 1406 carb, MP electronic ignition and dual exhaust with factory exhaust manifolds. Any/all guidance is (as always) appreciated!

383 alternator pivot bolt broke! Now what?

My buddy's '63 Dodge 440 (383 engine) was about to receive a 1-wire alternator today. We popped the hood, disconnected the battery and put the wrench on the pivot bolt and it was loose. Pulled the bolt out of the spacers and noticed the threaded end of the bolt was broken. WTF!!!! It appears...

    Blowing Voltage Regulators

My buddy has a '63 Dodge 440 (stock 383, 4-bbl, auto, A/C). He's had to replace 4 or 5 Voltage Regulators (both mechanical & electronic styles) in the last 3 years. The car works fine during daytime use. Once he turns on the headlamps the car drives using the battery until it is depleted. He...

    Electrical Help

My buddy has a '63 Dodge 440 with electrical issues. He believes he keeps "blowing" voltage regulators when he turns on the headlamps. Daytime driving he thinks it's all good. He's replaced Voltage Regulators ~5 times that I am aware of (with both mechanical & electronic style). The...

    Erratic Ammeter

My buddy's '63 Dodge 440 (383, 4-bbl, A/C, auto) has been having an issue. He claims that when he drives with the headlamps on the ammeter goes to full charge, drains the battery, and destroys the voltage regulator. Driving with the headlamps off, the ammeter shows just slightly to charge...

Ammeter to Full Charge when Headlamps ON

My buddy has a '63 Dodge 440. The Ammeter goes to full charge when the headlamps are turned ON. He drove it to work one dark morning and the car would not re-start because battery was dead, needed a jump start to get it home (daylight). Not sure if the ammeter damaged/failed the Voltage...

    360 Timing Questions

My buddy has a '65 A100 Pick-Up with a 1977 360 in it. Since this is a '77 motor I assume the timing tab is cast into the driver's side top of the timing chain cover. I say assume, because we can't see anything on this truck. The doghouse will not allow us to get anywhere near the timing tab...

Elec. Engrs. I need your help.

Saw this post on moparts.com and thought I'd try to help a '71 Dart buddy out. Please look at the attached diagrams. I have a 1971 Dart Swinger that I want to update the Wiper/Washer switch (for a custom dash). The original switch will, hopefully, be replaced by 3 toggle switches if my...
