Hey guys/Gals,

I am looking for a filter sock for my sending unit.

The problem I'm having is that I have a sending unit with a 1/2 inch inlet and all I see available is 3/8 and 5/16.

I've tried Spectra , Nappa, Rock Auto, O'Riellys, Vans Auto.

No luck.

Any help/suggestions welcome.

I don't think the sock changes per sending unit size..

Ya, unfortunately it does. I have a 3/8 and it doesn't fit.

I may have to ream it out but I was hoping I could find a replacement.

I took the sock and tossed it in the trash. Cut the end of the tube on both sides at angles and bend the points in a tad toward each other so a large piece of debris doesn't plug it. The main reason the sock is there so large debris doesn't plug the end of the tube if something gets in the tank. The inline filter is used to filter the fuel. Put one before the pump so you can maintain it easier as a filter then the sock in the tank.

I have seen the stop in the socks let the end of the sock get sucked up against or close to the end of the tube on the reproduction sending units. Causing the engine to run out of fuel at RPM's.

I was going to recommend the Holley Hydramat because I've read a lot of good press about them but then I went online and see what they want for them. Holy cow, $200-$1000 depending on size? I'll keep at least half a tank full if that is the case.

They aren't cheap, but they do allow up to 10 micron pre-filtering AND, allow the pick-up to not suck air even with incredibly low fuel levels. This makes them ideal for guys wanting to switch to EFI using the stock tank and a modified sending unit. This set-up greatly outperforms any after-market tanks with so called baffles rivaling factory fuel module performance.
