Good evening all,

Doing some work on my rear drums.
8 1/4” rear with 10” brakes. Probably from a 75/76 dart. Currently installed in a 65 dart.

I got a hardware kit, new shoes, and new drums. Most of the hardware kit has been installed. I’m having an issue on the front brake shoe, where the hole for the spring is too big to hold the spring. Can I put a washer behind the hole? Looks jenky, but should hold the spring. More concerned about safety/longevity. Pictures of old shoe and new shoe for reference.

Do you know the part number that was on the box the brake shoes came in?

I got it to clip with the washer in there. But again, more concerned about safety and longevity.

Those will work, but they sold you 445 brake shoes not 333.
Here's a picture of the 333 brake shoes.

I had the same problem with carquest shoes for my dart. We sent them back twice. Went to O Reilly and got the correct ones.

Perhaps your hardware is for a different year than the shoes

IMHO.

Pack a compatible year and buy all components for that year.

I have 68 and older and 69 and newer hardware.

Most of the hardware is the same but the auto linkage is different one year to the other.

One pulls up the on the adjuster and one pushes down.

The manufactures seem to think that there is no difference between the 333 shoe or the 445 shoe. So when you purchase either one, just ignore the number on the box.
Actually examine the shoe to determine which shoe you are getting.
The hardware kit for the 445 shoe is Raybestos H7044.
The hardware kit for the 333 shoe is Raybestos H7129.
You can look at both kits on eBay.
